the last three censuses. The population of the secondary divisions is shown in
italics under the population of the election precincts in which they are respectively
located. Several of the cities and towns are coextensive with the precincts in
which they are located, and others comprise two or more precincts, or parts of

Florida Given 1,468,211 by Final

Census

Washington, Nov. 22.-(A. P.)-The 1930 population
of the United States is 122,775,046. Florida's is 1,468,211
and Georgia's 2,908,506.

This figure was announced today by the Census Bureau
as the final total of the compilation it started at the be-
ginning of the year. All revisions have .been completed.

The census report shows the number of inhabitants of
the 48 states increased in the preceding decade by
17,064,426, or 16.1 per cent. The 1920 population was
105,710,620.

In the column showing the percentage of increase by
states was a key to several important trends of the past
ten years. Leading in this table was California with
65.7 per cent, Florida on its heels with 51.6, both show-
ing the pull of climatic attractions. Third with 32 per
cent was in Michigan, center of the fast growing auto-
mobile industry. Fourth was Arizona with 30.3. New
Jersey had 28.1, suggestive of the shift from metropolises
to adjacent suburban territory. Texas, 24.9, and North
Carolina, 23.9, pointed to the southern advance in in-
dustry and agriculture. Oregon had 21.8, a symptom
of the westward shift. New York, ninth in rank, had
21.1.

population at 122,775,046, it was stated. The following
information was furnished by the Bureau:
The official population of the United States in the 1930
census is 122,775,046, showing an increase of 76,856 over
the preliminary figures announced several months ago.
Changes were made in 46 of the States, 34 of which re-
ported larger populations than in the preliminary figures,
while 12 states had fewer. Two states and the District
of Columbia had the same populations as in the first
report.
Of the states which had smaller populations than in
the preliminary report, New York, with approximately
31,000 less, was the biggest loser. Other states that had
smaller figures in the final report were Maine, Massa-
chusetts, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ne-
braska, North Carolina, Kentucky, Idaho, New Mexico,
and Arizona.
Illinois gained the most by the recheck, final figures
giving that state more than 23,000 more than in the pre-
liminary announcement. Montana, the only state that
had a smaller population than in 1920, gained about
1,300 over .the preliminary figures. California, which
made the largest gains since 1920, had an even larger
population than the preliminary figures revealed, more
than 5,000 being added to the population as first an-
nounced.
In the outlying possessions of the United States, the
final population of all territories and possessions, except
the Philippine Islands, are given. With the exception
of an increase of more than 500 in Alaska, and a decrease
of 12 in Guam, these figures were the same as the pre-
liminary announcement. The Virgin Islands were the
only outside area that showed a decrease since 1920,
though there was a large drop in the number of military
and naval services abroad.
The official tabulation by States will be found on
page 8.
