HOW MIAMI JEWS VIEW JEWISH POLITICAL CLUB

April 20, 1932.
Editor,
New Jewish Unity
Miami, Florida
Dear Sir:
The Jewish residents of
Central Florida, view with
alarm the formation of a
Jewish political club in Mi-
ami. We feel that such a
club is not only detrimental
to the interests of Miami
Jews, but also to the inter-
ests of the Jews of the en-
tire state. No surer method
of arousing anti-Jewish feel-
ings could be devised than
an attempt at political or-
organization along racial
lines.
Deputy Municipal Judge
Hyaman N. Roth, President
of Orlando Lodge No. 10.43,
B'nai Brith, advises me that
he considers the attempted
formation of Jewish politi-
cal clubs in the State of
Florida, of so much threat-
ened injury to the interests
of the Jews of the State,
that he will institute con-
certed' action by the Orlan-
do, Daytona Beach, Tampa,
and Jacksonville Lodges of
the B'nai Brith to actively
combat such political clubs.
May we not appeal
through your columns to
the organizers of the pro-
posed club, to desist from
further activities along such
lines?
Orlando Lodge No. 1043

B'nai Brith,
By WM. N. SEGAL,

Secretary.
Any attempt for Jews to
present a solid front in poli-
tics will fail. Jews ar a re-
ligious group only and vote
as individuals.
HARRY I. LIPTON.

My good wife and I sub-
scribe to Judaism as a reli-
gion, and worship as such.
We vote as American citi-
zens.
We consider any Jewish
political organization as un-
American, un-Jewish, and a
detriment to any community
wherein it purports to exist.
It is contrary to the Am-
erican system of constitu-
tional government. Any re-
ligious political organiza-
tion is foreign and unknown
to successful constitutional
government. The American
people are guaranteed free-
dom of conscience and are
supposed to have freedom
in the exercise of the sacred
right of franchise. Any re-
ligious political organiza-
tion tends to undermine
these fundamental princi-
ples.
(Signed)

LEONARD EPSTEIN.

I do not care to associate
my name with a Jewish pol-
itical club. I shall vote for
the men that I, personally,
believe the most capable of
holding office.
SAUL S. COOEN.

FINE RECEIVES APPOINTMENT

Joseph M. Fine last week re-
ceived official announcement of
his appointment to the office of
deputy clerk to George McCall,
clerk of the Criminal Court of
Dade County. Mr. Fine has been
a resident of Miami for a number
of years and has many friends
who wish him well in his new
office. He assumed his duties last
Monday.

April 20, 1932.
Jewish Unity
Ellard Kohn, Publisher
Miami Florida.
My dear Mr. Kohn:
Replying to your inquiry,
beg to advise you that I have
no connection directly or in-
directly with any organiza-
tion of voters. I am appeal-
ing to the electorate of
Dade County for their sup-
port on the basis of my
qualifications for the office
which I seek, and that
alone.
I feel that I can well rep-
resent the interests of every
resident and voter of Dade
County without inquiry as
to race or creed, and this 1
propose to do, if I am
elected.
If, after a study of my
past record and qualifica-
tions, you feel that I merit
your support, and that of
your friends, I certainly will
appreciate whatever help
you can give me.
With kindest regards,
ABE ARONOVITZ.

JUNIOR COUNCIL TO GIVE
MOTHERS DAY AFFAIR

Mrs. Stanley C. Myers, sponsor
of the Junior Council of Jewish
Women, has accepted the chair-
manship of the Committee for
the annual "Mother's Day Af-
fair," May 8th, at the Antilla Ho-
tel, Coral Gables. She is being
assisted by Miss Goldye Miller
and Miss Sara Kohn. Arrange-
ments are being made to have
some of the leading talent of the
city. There will be singers, spe-
cialty dancers, musicians, etc.
Special guests will include all
presidents of the Senior organi-
zations. Further details will be
announced in the next week's is-
sue of "The Jewish Unity."

A. S. Goldman, candidate
for Constable in District 2,
revised, said in an interview
with a representative of the
Jewish Unity the other day:
"In announcing my candi-
dacy for constable, I prom-
ise, if elected, to carry on
the duties of the office to
the best of my ability and
to co-operate with the other
law enforcement agencies in
Dade County."
"I am a native Floridian
of Jewish faith and married
and have two children and
have lived in Miami since
1924. I have never before
held public office."
"I do not ask the support
of the, Jewish people of
Dade County because they
are my co-religionists. I
want them to carefully con-
sider my record as a citizen
of this community and then
if they are satisfied that I
have the necessary qualifi-
cations that a peace officer
must have, I want them to
go to the polls on June 7thk
and cast their vote in my
favor."

I can see no need for a
Jewish Political Club. As
has been stated, Judaism is
a religion.
ISAAC LEVIN.

In My mind there is no
function for a Jewish poli-
tical club. I am opposed to
bringing religion into polhi-
tics.

NORMAN MIRSKY.

A Jewish political club
can be of no value to Miami's
Jewish community.

HERBERT E. KLEIMAN.
