Abstract:
In this study, the web page performance was tested between SobekCM and Islandora. Both systems are being tested at servers hosted by FLVC. We found that the SobekCM sites required far less file requests which were significantly smaller in size than the same metrics for Islandora sites. This, and other performance factors, made the SobekCM system between 2.5 times and 85 times faster, depending on the types of pages being requested. These are significant differences which will impact performance (and perceived performance) of the systems. This difference will be particularly notable for connections with lower bandwidth, such as mobile connections or in parts of the world, such as the Caribbean, with generally lower bandwidth.
