Abstract:
The George A. Smathers Libraries at the University of Florida (UF) respectfully request $4292 to promote and facilitate five Collaborating with Strangers (CoLAB) networking workshops to connect 250 College of Journalism and Communications students, staff and faculty with others from business, engineering and health sciences colleges. Based on successful pilot workshops using the CoLAB Planning Series® facilitation methods, participants will engage in 3-minute conversations with “strangers” on topics related to research, passions, skills and other “hidden” assets. An average of 50 participants per session will meet 12-20 strangers resulting in 5,000 possible total connections. The project goal is to use proven facilitation processes and online follow-up to eliminate networking barriers, while creating the fertile ground for creative, entrepreneurial ideas that arise from focused conversations between those in and outside the field of mass communications.
