Abstract: The present invention in the art of biochemistry claims novel and non-naturally occurring engineered mutant “human superoxide dismutase 1” (hsod1) variant polypeptides, their encoding nucleic acids, and recombinant cells thereof. The inventor rationally engineered mutant hsod1 variants using structural observations and complimentary experimentation. The engineered mutant hsod1 variant products claimed have multiple potential industrial applications, including as novel therapeutics.
