SCWG Meeting: MINUTES August 13, 2012 / 10:30 – 11:30 / LW 419 Minutes: Christine Fruin In Attendance: Beth Auten (BA), Christine Fruin (CMF), Laurie Taylor (LT), Jennifer Wondracek (JW) I. Approved June Minutes (posted on SCWG LibGuide) II. Scholarly Communications Workshops a. CMF attempted to show blog post where workshops advertised and listed b. CMF briefly discussed impact factor presentation that she, Tara Cataldo, and Nancy Schaefer will be doing on Sept. 19th at Quarterly Subject Liaison Meeting (10:00 AM, Smathers 1A); this workshop will be developed into one for faculty and students to be offered Spring 2013 III. UFOAP Update a. CMF advised status of UFOAP and need to get buy in from academic deans; shared Library Dean’s plan to keep academic deans apprised of applications from their colleges; CMF hopes to spread word of need for fund through open access policy discussions IV. Open Access Week 2012 a. Reviewed draft itinerary i. LT suggested (and group agreed) to spend one session on publishing in OJS and the other on publishing in the IR; LT will contact librarian liaisons responsible for Interamerican Journal of Psychology and Journal of Undergraduate Research to coordinate with their editors for presentations on use of OJS and the IR for publishing b. Open Access Awards i. LT went over rationale and award categories; LT will prepare final draft to present to Library Dean for approval ii. BA suggested we draft email for liaisons to send to their departments as part of the call for nominations iii. Will make “virtual poster” rather than printed poster of award winners to be displayed during event; award winners will also be posted online iv. Need to give head’s up to Barbara Hood about certificate printing c. Call for Posters i. Group discussed draft of call for posters – parameters of poster size needs to be included; perhaps should offer printing of poster; JW suggested contacting Jennifer Farrington at Marston for specifics about printing needs ii. Call for posters will be sent to whole SCWG for edits/suggestions V. Copyright/Scholarly Communications Update a. Google Book lawsuit – Authors Guild seeking nearly $2 billion in damages in most recent motion for partial summary judgment b. Open Access Mandate in UK – beginning April 2013 all publicly funded research must be publicly accessible within 6 months c. Georgia State University – trial judge denied publishers’ injunction; awarded GSU attorney’s fees
