VIVO: A tool for collaboration and research discoveryVIVO is a new tool for research discovery, providing answers to questions such as who does research in my area of interest?, what grants are in place at my institution regarding a particular topic? and what papers relate to a specic concept? Linked Open Data Tools for Discovery A Growing Community VIVO 3: Miami, 8/22/2012VIVO assembles information regarding publications, grants, courses taught and university activities and positions into proles. VIVO harvests data from university sources as well as from other data aggregators. VIVO provides new opportunities for discovery. Data can reused and repurposed in a wide array of tools and settings by web pages, applications, and other consumers both within and outside the institution. Individuals may access the browse and search functionalities of VIVO anytime via the web. Researchers, scholars, students, administrators, funding agencies, donors, and members of the general public may all benet from using VIVO. Users can edit their proles by signing on to VIVO with their local authenticated UserID. Data from a variety of local and global sources can be updated nightly. Data is available in both human and machine formatsVIVO stores data as triples of the form subject-predicate-object. For example: Smith authorOf Paper. Each element of a triple can be a Uniform Resource Identier (URI). The VIVO ontology describes the predicates and relations of predicates to classes of subjects and predicates. Through URIs, VIVO can link any element in its triple store to any other element on the semantic web. Cross-site searches with full semantic inference can be performed (see VIVO Search).Sites that will produce VIVO data include: the CTSA Consortium (60 sites), Harvard Proles (30 sites), SciVal experts (20 sites), HubZero (4 sites), Loki. Sites adopting VIVO include: American Psychological Association (154,000 members) USDA (120,000 sta, 50 land grant universities), eight Australian research universities, National Science Library of China, 50 sites in the US, sites in Puerto Rico, UK, Mexico, Costa Rica, India. Wellspring provides VIVO proles.
