KALEIDOSCOPE MONTH 2009
LANGUAGE WORKSHOP GUIDELINES
NOVEMBER 11, 2009 at USTLER HALL
To whom It may concern,

Hi! My name is Theodore Urbano, the Assistant Director for Kaleidoscope Month. I will also be the
director for the Language Workshop this year. I strive to continue making the Language Workshop more
educational, more exciting, and most importantly, more interactive. In the following document, you will
come across what we are asking of you to put on November 11, 2009. We are asking that you follow the
structure of last year's Language Workshop and enhance it.

1) The first portion of the Language Workshop is the cultural portion. The audience will be divided
into groups equal to the number of participating sub-organizations. We hope to have a variety
of languages so that the student body can get the most of this workshop. Creativity is key to
making your station a success. You can teach them basic greetings, make posters and diagrams,
create fliers and brochures, etc. You should have just as much fun with the event as the
audience.
2) The second portion of the Language Workshop will be the interactive portion. Again, creativity
will be essential in entertaining the audience. You can interact in any way you like. The main
goal of this portion is to educate the audiences why it is important to l languages. This goal must be underlying in your performance. It can be subtle or heavily
evident. PowerPoints, posters, tri-fold backboards, role play, etc. can be used for this portion.

In order to track the progress of each sub-organization, preliminary outlines and station details will be
due one week before the event, or November 4, 2009. We will all meet in person to go over event
details, finalized scripts will be due, and program order in the second portion of the event. This meeting
is set for and November 8, 2009.

You are representing not only the Asian American Student Union, but your respective sub-organization
as well. So, please plan accordingly.

To make things more interesting, we will judge the interactive portion of the Language Workshop. In a
way, it will be a light-hearted competition between the sub-organizations to see who is more creative in
coming up with their interactive portions. Below you will find the criteria judges, who will remain
unannounced, will be using to judge each sub-organization.

If there are any questions, please feel free to call or e-mail me. I am looking forward to a great event and
the creativity of all participants. Have a great day!

Sincerely yours,

Theodore Urbano
