Item No. 899; Written on verso: "View looking toward railway tracks. The hill in background is artificial. the ground with the monuments is covered with 4 feet of alluvial silt. Below is a paved cobble stone court. The shaft at right of picture extends 28 ft. above the ground. It has 35 feet of rock in one piece (about 65 tons of sand stone from a distance). The unhewn rock must have weighted 80-100 tons. Quirigua, Guatemala, Oct. 28, 1940"
