The program winds up with a

Facilities in the Administration
Building.
Each tour begins and ends at
the Administration Building.
Twelve large buses, each with a
tour leader, will be running con-
tinuously between 8 a.m. and 5
p.m. for maximum convenience
of the company's guests.
During the Lago Family Day,
employees will also take part in
a raffle of eight 19-inch-screen
TV sets. The winning cards will
be drawn during Lago's TV pro-
gram "The Smith Family" on
Tele-Aruba on Sunday, Novem-
ber 19, between 9 and 9:30 p.m.
The program for the Lago
Family Day has been planned by
a committee headed by Ray
Farro and including Dufi Kock,
secretary, and Everett Beaujon,
Albert Eman and John Hodgson,
members.

campaign in a TV program on October 23. Explaining the program

their Traffic Safety Program.

Program Oct. 23
Through pamphlets each month
on a specific topic and by
means of television programs,
the Jaycees are drawing atten-
tion of the public on unsafe
traffic situations.
The first pamphlet issued on
October 23 gives hints on what
to do if your car's steering goes
bad. Other topics to be cover-
ed in the pamphlets during the
12-month campaign are: bra-
kes, tires, lighting systems,
windshield, courtesy on the road
and speed limits. These topics
have been selected based on
statistics obtained from the Is-
land Traffic Police.
In their safe traffic campaign,
the Jaycees are receiving the
cooperation of some forty ma-
jor businesses and industries on
the island, which will help dis-
tribute the pamphlets to their
employees. The Traffic Police is
also assisting in the develop-
ment and follow-up on the pam-
phlet topics.
In addition, the Aruba Jaycees

30-Year Service Awards


- October


Leonardo F. SIIberle began
his Lago employment as a
Laborer D in the Warehouse
in 1942. In 1944 he joined
the local army. Two years
later he returned to the com-
pany and was assigned to
the Marine-Launches where
he became Launch Helper A
in 1949.

Mr. Silberie became
Launchman C in 1953, and in
1956, began working as a
Quartermaster in the Floating
Equipment Division. In 1968
he was permanently assign-
ed to this position. After se-
veral acting assignments, Mr.
Silberie was promoted to Tug
Operator in 1970. He is pre-
sently in the Process-Oil
Movements Division, Floating
Equipment where he observ-
ed his 30th service annivers-
ary on October 6, 1972.


Juan Wouters joined La-
go's Labor Department as a
Laborer D in 1941. In 1943
he became Laborer A. Fol-
lowing a short break in ser-
vice due to resignation, he
was reemployed in the Elec-
trical Section as a Laborer.
In 1947 he became Electri-
cian Helper B, and transfer-
red to the Shipyard where
he became Electrician Hel-
per A in 1951.

Between 1956 and 1964,
Mr. Wouters worked his way
up to Electrician A. This title
was changed to Equipment
Tradesman A in 1967. An
Equipment Tradesman A -
Electrical in Mechanical -
Electrical since 1968, Mr.
Wouters observed his 30th
service anniversary on Oc-
tober 6, 1972.


Egidlo Thiel's first job at
Lago was as a Laborer D in
the Labor Department in
1941. In December 1943 he
was drafted into the army
where he served until late
1946. Returning to Lago that
same year, he was assigned
to the Wharves where he be-
came a Wharfinger in 1951.
In 1955 Mr. Thiel advanced
to Dockman. This title was
changed to Dock Attendant
in 1962.

Mr. Thiel, who since 1964
has acted in the positions of
Corporal B-Dockmaster and
Quartermaster, is presently
assigned to Process-Oil Mo-
vements Division, Harbor
Area. His service anniversary
date was on October 8, 1972.


Eduard Tjin Kon Fat ori-
ginally began as a Messen-
ger B in the Personnel De-
partment in 1942. After work-
ing there as an Office Boy
and subsequently as an Ap-
prentice Typist, he transfer-
red to the Engineering De-
partment in 1945 where he
became Tracer C. In 1950 he
became Junior Draftsman B,
progressing to "A" class a
year later. This title was later
changed to Engineering Trai-
nee and Jr. Engineering As-
sistant A.

In 1959, Mr. Tjin Kon Fat
was promoted to Engineering
Assistant A. His promotion to
Sr. Engineering Assistant fol-
lowed in 1963. An Engineer-
ing Technician in Mechani-
cal-Project Engineering Sec-
tion since 1968, Mr. Tjin Kon
Fat will commemorate his
30th service anniversary on
October 27, 1972.

CHARLES A. G. RICHINSIN died in St. Maarten, French West
Indies, on July 17, 1972 at age 74. He had been an employee
of Mechanical-Yard and retired from Lago in May, 1968 after
over fifteen years of service.

EUGENIO HENRIQUEZ died in Aruba on August 3, 1972. He at-
tained age 78. An employee of the M&C Office, he retired in
December, 1953 after over 16 years of service.

Radio Hams Help Aruba Scouts

The Aruba scouts on October
21-22 celebrated their first lus-
trum as participants in the World
Jamboree on the Air, which lat-
ter organization is also com-
memorating its third lustrum
this year. With the assistance of
the Aruba radio hams, the
scouts set up two stations on
the island to foster friendship
among scouts throughout the
world. This year it was the first
time that the World Radio Jam-
boree was officially opened
from Aruba. Present at the
Oranjestad station's PJ-3-AH
was Minister of Communications
L. Chance who opened contacts
with the stations in Curacao and
St. Maarten. The Oranjestad sta-
tion, located in the Santanero
Club at Dakota, was manned by
Theo Orman, Chester Webster
(station director) and Adolf Kock.
Here some 30 scouts of the
Santanero Group under District
Commissioner D. Vrieswijk had
an opportunity to communicate
with scouts in many distant
places.


The other Aruba station, PJ-
3-MV, was set up on Lago
Heights with Maty Vrolijk as sta-
tion director, assisted by Sylvan
Paul, Godwin James and Marci-
ano Angela. Here the World
Jamboree on the Air was open-
ed by Lago's PR Manager Os-
car Antonette, while some fif-
teen members of the Aruba Girl
Guides (AMG) and about ten
boyscouts of the St. Joris Group
spoke with friends abroad.
During the 24-hour program,
the two stations made some six-
ty contacts with countries such
as Curacao, Santo Domingo,
St. Maarten, Trinidad, Barbados,
Jamaica, Puerto Rico, the Unit-
ed States, Canada, Panama, Bra-
zil, Surinam, Germany, Scotland
and England.
Through this annual event,
the scouts of Aruba have a
chance not only to contact
scout friends abroad, but also
to help carry Aruba's name to
many places throughout the
world.

west of Powerhouse No. 2 to
the separators near Power-
house No. 1. Part of that canal
east of Powerhouse No. 1 had
already been filled during the
HDS-1 Project.
A major stream discharging
into this canal was the CON
flume, which contains the cool-
ing water effluent of the PCAR
and other nearby units. This
flume has been diverted with the
construction of a new 750 ft.
long underground channel west
of the Laboratory that ties in
with the HDS-1 flume and dis-
charges into the Secondary Se-
parator.
With the drying up of the for-
mer open canal, in use since
1942, the ditch left is being
cleaned for refilling with sand.
At one point, a pad for the
foundation of a concrete flare
stack has already been con-
structed right where the canal


used to run. Also part of the
Heavy Gas Oil Hydrofiner of
HDS-2 is rising on the filled-in
canal.
In addition to providing valu-
able land for the construction of
some units, the elimination of
the old canal improves the gen-
eral appearance of the coast-
line and work environment.
Moreover, by building a road it
has also become possible now
to connect the HDS-2 area and
the remaining refinery area di-
rectly with Powerhouse No. 2
on the sea side. Where the old
canal used to run, now only a
narrow ditch for rainwater drain-
age has been left close to the
former rocky shoreline.
The project is carried out by
the McKee Company as the
prime contractor for the HDS-2
Project, while Johnson Enter-
prises was the subcontractor for
the canal filling and McAlinden
Corporation was in charge of
blasting work for the CON flume
relocation.
The personnel involved in this
project includes Dave Schmehr
of the Esso Research team as-
signed to the HDS-2 Project,
