Lago Oil & Transport Co., Ltd. Aruba, Netherlands Antilles VOL. 33-No. 19 1947 LVS Clas Thirty-four employees of the 1947 Class of the Lago Vocatio- nal School celebrated their 25th service anniversary in grand style with a dinner-dance fiesta at the IOWUA Recreation Center on September 15. On this oc- casion, the quarter-century serv- ice men received their 25-year service watches from their de- partment managers. Special guests were the em- ployees' wives and Lago Presi- dent R. L. Trusty, department managers and division superin- tendents of the watch recipients. The party was under direction of an organizing committee, with Faustino Clark as MC, and Ray- mundo Nicolaas, Theodoor Lat- tig, Herman Maduro, and Agri- pino Geerman as members. The program included a wel- come address by Raymundo Farro, and speeches by IR Man- ager Fabian S. Francis as for- mer LVS senior instructor and ex-LVS Principal Eugene Has- sell, and a closing speech by Mario Zarraga. Mechanical Engineering Acquires New As part of a program to im- data was recently put in oper- prove access to information in ation. The system consists of a the Mechanical Engineering Di- library of U.S. manufacturers' vision, a new system for obtain- product catalogs and technical ing up-to-date manufacturer's publications in microfilm form, and a "Viewer-Printer" for view- ing and making prints from the microfilm within seconds. The -microfilm comes in 16-mm rolls, 0J / J each encased in a 4-inch square 4 cartridge holding the equivalent to over thirty 80-page catalogs. Over 15,000 catalogs are avail- able in the system, which con- sists of two sets of cartridges. One set contains the catalogs filmed cover-to-cover, while the other contains engineering data extracted from these catalogs. The engineering data cover se- ven sections, including Electri- cal, Electronic, Fluid Systems, Instruments and Power Trans- ten to explanation by Isaac Chin mission. system. Na robez ta e stand action Handling Services, a U.S. I 16mm y na drechl e "reader/ firm with which the subscription ar". for this service has been placed. Microfilm System The system meets a long- standing requirement in the En- gineering Division. In contrast to the conventional catalogs in the G.O.B. Library, the micro- film system permits easy and quick access to current inform- ation from an almost unlimited source. It requires little or no attention by Lago personnel and occupies negligible space in the Engineering Division's vault area. The 5% cubic feet occu- pied by all the cartridges com- pares with 450 cubic feet which equivalent printed catalogs would occupy, and contains 100 times more product data then has been previously available. Within a few months, another improvement in information re- trieval will be inaugurated. This will consist of putting on micro- film the Division's 10,000 inac- tive project files which are re- quired for future reference. The viewer-printer equipment will then be used for both the cat- alog and project file systems. I SepteberBA9 1 072 Qerencio To Contesto Bo Pregunto : Pa Contest: No. 5 Pa Pregunta: No. 3500 Management Answers Your Questions For Answers: Dial 5 For Questions: Dial 3500 0. I would like to know why Lago doesn't give each em- ployee a month's salary for their bonus, because the cost-of-living bonus, I under- stand, Is to pay off your debts. A. The COL bonus is not an arbitrary amount, it is deter- mined by the government COL Index for October and is paid in advance for the following year. Actually, the customary December pay- ments COL., additional Thrift contribution and Thrift Earnings amount to much more than a month's pay. Q. If Lago offers an employee the option to stop contribut- Ing 4%0 to the vacation plan, why doesn't the company permit us, those who can, to leave more, about 10/o, even though Lago continues adding 41% for us? A. Employees' net take-home pay, after deductions for Thrift, Loan repayments, An- nuity, insurance, Income Tax, etc. is presently at such a level whereby further de- ductions may pose a hard- ship to most employees. If any employee feels that he can save an additional 10% of his pay, it would be to his advantage to deposit this on a bank where his savings would accrue interest. Q. I want to join the new Pen- sion Plan retroactively. Now that I have my vested rights, when Is this plan going to be reopened? There are over 100 employees, includ- Ing management members, who want to join. A. This plan is open for par- ticipation at any time, but not on a retroactive basis. If you have not yet joined the plan, we suggest you do so as early as possible so that if retroactive participat- ion is permitted in the future, your retroactive contribution would be less. 0. Lago has made changes in Its Vacation Plan. Now isn't it possible for Lago to make a change In the Thrift Plan also? For Instance, if some- one has debts, isn't It pos- sible to deduct the debt from what he has saved, so his take-home pay can in- crease? A. The purpose of the Thrift Plan is to encourage emplo- yees to save so that they will have funds available to meet emergencies, such as grave sickness in the family, build- ing and repairing a home, educating their children, and having something to fall back on when they are no longer able to work. If the compa- ny permitted an employee to borrow as much as he pleas- es from his account without limitation, then it would not be long before his account would be entirely depleted. What happens then when a real emergency arises and he needs money? Q. Why not discontinue the thrift loan payment by de- ducting the full amount from your Thrift Plan, then our take-home pay will increase? A. A loan means that you are borrowing money. When you borrow money, from any source, you are required to repay the amount borrowed with interest. If you do not wish to repay, then you can make a Thrift Withdrawal. The maximum an employee can withdraw from his Thrift Account is two-thirds of his contributions, two-thirds of company additional contri- butions and two-thirds of fund earnings. Q. I would like to know If any- one can send in as many Ideas as possible to correct or to improve their jobs. A. A non-management emplo- yee is free to submit as ma- ny suggestions as he wishes to improve his job or any other job at Lago. Certain management members who are eligible for CYI awards may submit suggestions per- taining only to situations out- side the scope of their re- gular duties. P. MI kler drenta e plan nobo di pensloen retroactivamen- te. Awor cu ml tin ml dere- cho riba pensloen, kl dia nan ta bolbe habrl e plan ey? Tin mas cu 100 emplea- do Incluyendo mlembro- nan di gerencla kende kier blra mlembro. C. E plan ta habri pa partici- pacion na cualkier momen- to, pero no ariba base re- troactivo. Si ainda Bo no a drenta e plan, nos ta sugeri pa Bo haci esey lo mas pronto posibel, pasobra si acaso participation retroac- tivo bira posibel den future, anto Bo contribution retro- activo lo ta menos. P. Lago a hacl camblonan den su Plan di Vacantie. Lo no ta posibel pa Lago had cam- blo tambe den e Thrift Plan? P. Pakiko compania no ta stop flamento for dl Thrift Plan henteramente door dl kita tur loke nos debe for dl nos Thrift Plan, e ora ey loke nos ta hiba cas lo bira mas? C. Un prestamo ta nifica cu Bo ta fiando placa. Ora Bo fia placa, for di cualkier fuente. Bo tin obligacion di paga e plaka bek mas e in- teres. Ora Bo no ta desea di paga bek, So por lanta placa for di Bo cuenta den thrift. C.
