Safe Drivers By Being C About one-fifth of the gasoline that the average driver puts in- to his car is wasted. Here are several ways to cut motor fuel expenses: 1. Check tire pressure reg- ularly underinflated tires can waste one-half gallon of gaso- line out of 20 you buy. 2. Keep the motor tuned - check your automobile oper- ators manual for proper tuneup schedule. Dirty or faulty spark plugs alone can waste as much as 1 gallon out of every 10. 3. Watch your braking - few things burn up gasoline faster than repeated, unneces- sary stopping and starting. By keeping proper distances you can also avoid slamming on the brakes. 4. Let your car breathe - automobile engines need at least 9,000 gallons of air for every gallon of gasoline used. This requires a clean air filter. SCan Economize iasoline-Wise 5. Know your gasoline - check with the dealer for the type your car requires. 6. Steady your driving - Rushing up to stops, gunning the motor while you wait, and roaring off after stopping only waste fuel. These sensible driving tech- niques for saving gas also pay off in another way they also make you a better and safer driver.
