Jules H. ("Capy") Cabenda of
Comptroller's Department was
promoted to Accountant in the
HDS Audit/Accounting Group
effective May 1. With this pro-
motion Capy has attained man-
agement status.
A 1950 graduate of the Juli-
ana School in Oranjestad, Capy
joined Lago's Technical Depart-
ment as a Junior Clerk that
same year, advancing to Jr. En-
gineering Assistant "B" in 1954.
Later on he transferred to the
Accounting Department (now
Comptroller's) where he began
as a Jr. Operations Clerk "B"
in the Shipping & Process Div-
ision. In 1963 he was promoted
to Sr. Operations Analysis Clerk.
The following year, Capy
moved to the Materials Section

has been working in the Finan-

ite hobby is playing dominoes.

The first management dinner this year was held on May 12 at the
Aruba Golf Club, with employees' wives as guests. The program,
held from 7:30 p.m. to midnight, also included dancing to the music

service employees and their wives.

Four HTS Students Gain Experience


During Six-Month
Four future engineers are
currently acquiring practical
work experience at Lago under
the Cooperative Education Pro-
gram. This program gives these
young men who are attending
their third year of HTS (Higher
Technical School) in Holland
the opportunity to become bet-
ter acquainted with actual work
conditions and procedures in In-
dustry.

The four young men currently
on a six-month training assign-
ment are Leopoldo Vrolijk, Juan
de Cuba, Leopoldo Henriquez
and Ruben de Windt.
An electrical engineering stu-
dent at the HTS in Groningen,
Leopoldo Vrolijk began his
training assignment in the Mech-
anical-Electrical Section on De-
cember 1, 1971.
Juan de Cuba, who is study-
ing mechanical engineering at
the HTS in Zwolle, is working in
the Mechanical-Engineering DI-
vision. He joined Lago on De-
cember 6, 1971.
Leopoldo Henriquez began his
assignment in Technical-Process
Engineering on February 1. He
is a chemical engineering stu-
dent at the HTS in Heerlen.
Ruben de Windt joined the
program on April 5. A mechani-
cal engineering student at the
HTS in Heerlen, he is currently
assigned in Mechanical Engin-

Dynamite Blasts Pave The Way

For Jet Fuel Tanks in Tank Farm


An unusual activity took place
recently on the site north of
Tank 364 in the Tank Farm
area. This activity involved mas-
sive preparation work for the
construction of two new tank
foundations in an area where
dynamite blastings were neces-
sary to level off the surface.
The project for the Kerosene
Jet Fuel Handling Facilities calls
for the erection of two 200,000-
bbls jet fuel tanks including two
pumps, two filters and two
dryers.
To keep the tanks in line with
plans for similar jet fuel tanks
to be constructed in the future
in this area, it was necessary to
dismantle two kerosene tanks,
relocate a pipe bank consisting
of twenty pipelines and drilling
a record 1600 holes in the exist-
ing coral rock formation to re-
duce the impact of the explo-
sions. The drilling operation was
carried out by Mechanical-M&C
personnel.
On April 25, blastings began
and were continued on the hour
between 8 am. and 5 p.m. at the


rate of about 100 holes per day.
The job took about four weeks,
including Saturdays. In the ope-
ration, three heavy steel blast-
ing mats and two rope mats,
each measuring 10x 12 ft., were
utilized to muffle the explosions
and to prevent rocks and debris
from scattering about. To place
the heavy mats on the area to
be blasted a crane was used.
The blastings were done by Mc-
Alinden Corporation.

The tanks will be built by Chi-
cago Bridge & Iron Company.
To prevent corrosion in the tank
interiors and to better meet jet
fuel specifications both tanks
will be coated with a special
anti-corrosion paint. The tanks
and the other facilities are due
in service by November this year.
Total investment on the tank
project is about $2 million.
Project leader for these facili-
ties is Benny Kock of Mechani-
cal-Project Engineering Section,
while Gilberto Maduro of Mech-
anical-Engineering is the Field
Engineer.


Because of heavy coral rock formations, dynamite blastings are
necessary to level off this area which is reserved for Jet Fuel tanks.

Opens in Oranjestad on May 5


A special restaurant, "Ken-
tucky Fried Chicken", was open-
ed in Oranjestad on May 5, ad-
ding one more to the over 4000
outlets all over the world.
Rated among the world's top
ten, the business has among its
partners Johnny Chemaly of
Aruba who owns the building,
and Lou Wolff, who is general
director of the Aruba and Cura-
cao KFC. It was built, equipped
and stocked at a cost of FIs.

The Aruba KFC Restaurant
provides fast takeout service
About one minute after ordering
the takeout box, you'll have it.
Contrary to many other KFC out-
lets, the Oranjestad KFC has
seating accommodation for 36
people. The establishment is
open daily from 11 a.m. to 12
midnight.
The KFC offers a 2-piece
Snack Box, a 3-piece Regular
Dinner Box, a 9-piece Thrift Box,

eighteen persons, including the
manager, Friedrich Zielinski,
kitchen personnel and hostesses.
The famous recipe for frying
chicken originated from Colonel
Sanders who, after years of try-
ing, hit on a combination of
eleven different herbs and spices
that turned out the best fried
chicken ever tasted.
The Oranjestad KFC, which
has a limited restaurant permit,
is provided with special decora-
tions, including the picture of
Colonel Sanders. Also the lunch
boxes or barrels have special
red/white stripes with Colonel
Sanders' picture on them.
