SEsso , Lago Oil & Transport Co., Ltd. E e 0 Aruba, Netherlands Antilles VOL 32 No. 23 November 19, 1971 Lago's Second Art Contest Boasts 204 Entries by 105 Participants The exhibition room at the Cultural Center In Oranjestad this year proved too small for displaying the large number of art works in Lago's Second Gallery of Art. Therefore, 86 art works turned in by the younger group (up to 10 years of age) were set up in the lobby in front of the exhibition room. After welcome remarks at the official opening by Lago Art Contest Chairman Albert C. Eman, Vice President LeRoy Johnston addressed those pre- sent. He congratulated the par- ticipants for their fine works and thanked the judges as well as the LAC committee members for their contribution to the suc- cess of the art exhibition. Con- sidering the results of this con- test, he also announced that the company will sponsor an- other painting contest in 1972. Mr. Johnston then presented the prizes to the winners. Af- terwards he officially opened the exhibition with the traditio- nal cutting of the ribbon. What the visitors saw were 204 art works by 105 partici- pants in four age groups: up to (Continued on page 2) f hLK Su Boeing 747 Ta Promer Lago Vice Presi- dent LeRoy John- ston presents first prize award in Art Contest to Mrs. Eva-Marle Sundal. However, this privilege and honor bring along a great responsibility, the responsibility of proper repre- sentation." These were some remarks of Robert (Roro) Her- nandez who says that top phy- sical condition and a great deal of effort are required to take part in competitions. He regret- fully feels that he no longer can meet these demands. Since 1966, after returning to Lago from the U.S. where he played for three years on the Southern Illinois University team (holding 4th and 5th positions on a six-man team), Roro was a regular on the Aruba team and represented Aruba on many occasions. Decides to Retire ennis Competition Roro has won many island championships in singles, dou- bles and mixed doubles. Roro together with Els Spruit won the Antillean mixed doubles champ- ionship in 1968, and with Sjef v/d Boom won the Antillean men's doubles in 1969. Roro is retiring as Aruba's undefeated singles champion of 1970 (he did not participate in 1971 singles championship as he was off the island) and is both men's doubles and mixed doubles champion for 1971. As a member of the Esso Tennis Club, Roro plans to con- tinue representing his club and participate occasionally in club championships.
