Maintenance & Construction Men Set New Worldwide Jersey Safety Record

During a gathering in the
Mechanical Shops on Friday af-
ternoon, October 8, 1971, Lago
President R. L. Trusty addres-
sed a group of Mechanical De-
partment employees.
The occasion was the first
presentation of special safety
awards in the form of transistor
radios to Maintenance & Con-
struction (M&C) personnel in
recognition of their achievement
of over 2.5 million manhours
without a disabling injury. This
broke the Jersey worldwide
safety record for this type of
work The presentations were
made by President Trusty and
Mechanical Manager K. L.
Addressing a group of out-
standing safety performers, Mr.
Trusty remarked "It is with a
great deal of pride that I am
making the presentations today
to a group with outstanding in-
dividual safety records. Lago is
one of the safest refineries in
the world, and this is proven

by your achievements which
we are recognizing today,
Through safety awareness for
over two and a half years, you
have set a new Jersey record
- in fact today, you already
reached 2.6 million manhours.
This represents exceptional per-
formance. Having set a new re-
cord we must not be tempted
to relax our effort. We have to
intensify our safety awareness
so that we can keep up our
reputation of being the world's
safest refinery."
On behalf of Lago's Manage-
ment group, Mr. Trusty congra-
tulated all Maintenance & Con-
struction personnel for reach-
ing this milestone in safety.
The first to be presented
with the special safety award
was Goy L. Frank, an Instru-
ment/Electrical Planner, who
has a perfect safety record of
38 years, the highest in M&C.
