Four promotions were an-
nounced in two Mechanical De-
partment divisions on July 1.
Richard "Dick" H. Bauer be-
came division superintendent -
Mechanical Engineering. In that
same division, Dario Picus and
Raymond L. Peterson advanced
to the new supervisory positions
of inspection group heads in
the Equipment Inspection Sec-
tion.
In the Maintenance & Con-
struction Division, Alexander
"Al" L. M. Connor was prom-
oted to senior engineer in the
Maintenance Engineering Sec-
tion.

Engineering as supervising en-
gineer in the General Engineer-
ing Section which handled the
design and installation of elec-
trical and instrumentation faci-
lities. Before his recent promo-
tion to division superintendent,
he had been acting in that po-
sition since February this year.
Dick received his B.S. degree
in mechanical engineering from
Clarkson College of Technology
in New York in 1961, and a
master's degree in 1962. He has
taken several courses on air
and water pollution control at


the Taft Engineering Center of
the U.S. Department of Interior
at Cincinnati, Ohio.

His nine years' experience in
the petroleum industry includes
four years of offsite and utilities
design work, and several years
supervising environmental con-
trol and safety projects. He also
wrote the computer program-
used by Esso Engineering in
predicting dispersion of gases
from refinery and petrochemical
complexes, which has been
used on air-pollution studies at

Reorganizations Announced in

Process & Technical Departments


Effective June 21, the follow-
ing organization changes took
place in the Process and Tech-
nical Departments.
In the Technical Department,
a new Crude and Products
Coordination Division was form-
ed, consisting of two sections:
the (short range) Economics
Section, headed by Bill Duke,
and a Coordination Section, un-
der Charlie Bateman. The Eco-
nomics Section was transferred
from the Economics & Planning
Division and the Coordination
Section from the Process-Sup-
ply Division.
Up to August 1, 1971, the new
Crude and Products Coordina-
tion Division will be under
August Genser, who will then
assume a two-year assignment
in New York in the Economics
Section of the Creole-New York


Sales Department. On August
1, Don McLauchlan will assume
responsibility of this new divi-
sion.
The Economics & Planning
Division will be renamed Plan-
ning & Projects Development
Division and will be under the
direction of John Bolich.
Also, effective June 21, Jim
Beissel returned from the HDS
Task Force to reassume super-
vision of the Process Engineer-
ing Division, which will now al-
so provide technical support for
the HDS units.
In the Process Department,
the Supply Division has been
eliminated and its blending
functions have been consolidat-
ed Into the Terminal Division,
which was renamed the Oil
Movements Division. Trev Rhyd-
derch heads this division.

Local Talents Can Start Working

To Compete in Lago's Art Contest


For the second year Lago will
sponsor a painting contest for
its employees and their imme-
diate family members. All ages
may participate.
This year's art exhibition will
be held in October. This means
that employees and their spous-
es and children have approxi-
mately three months to express


their talents, using any of the
known painting techniques.
Last year's Art Contest attract-
ed 56 artists who submitted 103
paintings. The winners received
FIs. 900 in cash and gift certi-
ficates.
Further details on this year's
Art Contest will be given in the
near future.

cluding one covering a rotating
drum oil skimmer such as used
in Lago's oil/water separators,
and two other patents covering
application techniques for ure-
thane foam insulation systems
such as will be employed on
the Trans-Alaskan crude oil
pipeline.
Dick's hobbies include photo-
graphy and golf. He and his
wife Elaine have two children,
Eric, 4, and 6-month-old Janice.
Al Connor
A Mulo-A graduate from the

Connor studied at the UTS
before leaving for Holland in
1959. Here he received his
mechanical engineering degree
from the Higher Technical
School of Haarlem in 1964.
That same year he joined
Lago's Mechanical Engineering
Division as an engineer in the
Equipment Inspection Group. In
1966 he worked as area super-
visor in the M&C Division and
later moved to the Project En-
gineering Section. Most recent-
ly he has been working in
Mechanical-M&C, General.
His July 1 promotion is in re-
cognition of his contributions in
the field of rotating equipment
in the Maintenance Engineering

Darlo Plcus
Dario Picus has sixteen years'
experience in refinery equip-
ment inspection. He started as
a student in Lago Vocational
School in 1949. He later trans-
ferred to Technical Department
where he worked his way up to
engineering assistant "A" in
1962. The following year, he left
on a one-year Educational
Leave of Absence to study
chemical engineering courses at
the West Virginia Institute of
Technology.
In 1966, Dario was promoted
to senior engineering technician
in Technical-Engineering. The
following year he advanced to
engineering technician in the
Mechanical-Engineering, Equip-
ment inspection Group, the po-
sition he held prior to his July
1 promotion.

Ohio. Pete is also a volunteer
firefighter.
In his spare time, he enjoys
swimming, skin-diving and
sports, especially football. He
also likes photography.
He and his wife Elvira have
two daughters, Jessica, 13, Va-
lerie, 8, and a son, Gregory, 2%.

"New Horizons", the third vo-
lume of the history of Standard
Oil Company (New Jersey), co-
vering the period from 1927 to
1950, has been published by
Harper & Row. The authors are
Henrietta M. Larson, Evelyn
Knowlton, and the late Charles
S. Popple.
This third volume relates the
Jersey Company's development
and organization through the
depression, World War II and
postwar reconstruction.
The first volume, titled "Pion-
eering" in big business (1882-
1911), and the second volume,
"The Resurgent Years" (1911-
1927), covered the formation and
the growth of a major Industrial
company. A very limited supply
of these are available.
