"Management Answers Your Questions" Elicits 672 Questions in First Year On May 11, 1971 the "Man- agement Answers Your Ques- tions" program completed one year. This new two-way com- munication channel at Lago has proved to be an important link between management and em- ployees. It serves to keep em- ployees informed on such mat- ters as employee benefits, plant operations, working conditions and company policies. During the program's first year, 672 questions were asked, of which the great majority has been answered so far. As an- nounced when the system was initiated, personal questions are not answered. However, every effort is made to reply to em- ployees' general inquiries as soon as possible. Occasionally, replies of general interest are repeated for the convenience of the callers. The special tape recorder or "Electronic Secretary" is instal- led in PR/IR Communications Section and connected to tele- phone 3500. It has 600 feet of tape to record all questions called in on Mondays and Tues- days. Answers are played back on Wednesday, Thursdays and Friday. Messages recorded on Friday are left on tape for the convenience of shift workers over the weekend. Incoming questions are trans- cribed and translated once a week. They are sent to the de- partments concerned for reply. All answers are returned in writ- ing to the Communications Sec- tion for recording and playback on the "Electronic Secretary". Delays in answering certain questions are because some questions take longer to inves- tigate than others and many have to be translated. Unlike the Dial 7 system, only one person at a time can ask questions or listen to replies given on 3500. Thus, when this line gives a busy signal, it is either because a caller is lis- tening in, or because the "Elec- tronic Secretary" has been dis- connected to permit transcrip- tion of the questions. As of this issue, questions and answers of general interest will be published in the Aruba Esso News from time to time. (See Questions and Answers on page 7) Willem v.d. To celebrate their second lustrum, the board and its sixty members this month dedicated a special three-act play to the Spanish conquest of the island. It portrays one of the early in- habitants of Aruba, the Arawak Indians, their culture and their fate at the time Alonso de Ojeda discovered the island in 1499. The play, titled "Macuarima" (the name of an Indian Chief), is part history, part legend. It is the original work of Ernesto E. Rosenstand, the first Aruban to write such a play in Papia- mento. Mr. Rosenstand is a MAVO teacher at La Salle Col- lege and a Spanish teacher at Colegio Arubano. Almost entirely in charge as director of the play was Oslin Boekhoudt, also a MAVO tea- cher of La Salle College. Mr. Boekhoudt is the first local member in Mascaruba's ten years' existence who assumed this task. Previously, all plays were in the hands of Dutch stage directors, the most recent one being Dolf de Vries who will soon be returning to Hol- land. In 1961, with Jan H.
