Executive Council Hears Progress Report on Lago's HOS Project

The Aruba Executive Council
was special guest of Lago man-
agement on Monday, December
7. Reason for the occasion was
to give Aruba's highest govern-
ment authorities an up-to-date
account on the status of Lago's
Hydrodesulphurization Project
The visitors, Lt Governor O.
S. Henriquez, Aldermen Virgilio
Kock, Max Croes, Hose Figaroa,
Jacobo A. Alders and Odulio B.
Arends, and acting Island Secre-
tary Armando Muyale, were wel-
comed by Lago management in
the General Office Building.
Following introductory remarks
by President Roy L. Trusty,
Technical Manager Henry Mo-
well gave an overall description
of the HDS project. Peter De-
May, Resident Project Manager,
reported on the HDS construc-
tion effort and project status.
Assistant Process Manager Car-
le Williams described the train-
ing, start-up and manning as-
pects of the project.
Explanations on the function
and operation of the Refining
Control Center and the Oil Move-
ments Control Center were given
by Raymundo Farro, Project
Engineer, and Supply Division
Superintendent August Genser,
respectively.


Vice-President LeRoy John-
ston concluded the presentation
on Lago's HDS project with a
talk on pollution abatement.
The guests also toured the
HDS construction site and view-
ed the scale models of the va-
rious HDS plants in the con-
tractor's field office.
At the Refining Control Cen-
ter and Oil Movements Control
Center the visitors saw first-
hand the modern computer in-
stallations, the two nerve cen-
ters of the refinery.
After the refinery tour, the
guests enjoyed luncheon at the
company's guest house with
Lago management as host.

Seventy-Two Mechanical Men Benefit from Refractory Training Course


During the week of December
7 through 11, some seventy-two
Mechanical tradesmen and su-
pervisors followed a Refractory
Seminar
The first phase of the course
was attended by thirty-one
Mechanical supervisors, three
equipment inspectors and two
Mechanical Engineering em-
ployees Divided in two groups,
each group followed a nine-
hour seminar
The second phase included
six-hour sessions for two groups
A total of six Mechanical super-
visors and thirty tradesmen fol-
lowed this program
The course dealt with the
mixing, application, curing and
storage of refractories or heat
and corrosion resistant mate-
rials such as bricks mortar and

Two groups of Process em-
ployees recently completed a 4-
day Hydrogen Plant training
program at Florham Park, New
Jersey.
The training was conducted
on a computer simulator at Es-
so Research & Engineering Co.
The program has been designed
to simulate the startup of our
Hydrogen Plants in enough de-


tail to give the operating per-
sonnel "experience" prior to the'
actual plant startup.
The first group left on Novem-
ber 28 and the second group

Our Christmas Cover

Our cover this year is dedicated to the General Office Building,
which for many years along with the PCAR has been the
most festively decorated structure of Lago at Christmas time.
For thirty years the building has been the "nerve center" for
Lago's operations. Built In several phases at a cost of approxi-
mately FIs. 2,000,000, it serves as office for a few hundred em-
ployees of practically all departments.

dels that have been in use for
some 12 years on the present

For the HDS units, some fifty
of the new model analyzers will

infra-red analyzers which are
new to Lago.

Schools as a laborer in
1940.
Mr. Williams was transfer-
red to the Acid Plant the
following year starting as
process helper C. He ad-
vanced to "A" class cate-
gory in 1942. Three years
later he was promoted to
controlman. Between 1948
and 1956, he acted on seve-
ral occasions in the position
of shift breaker for assistant
operator and controlmen,
and later on also as an as-
sistant operator.
At present he is an assis-
tant operator in Process-
Utilities Division, Acid & Ede-
leanu. Mr. Williams will com-
memorate his 30th service
anniversary on December 25.
