Realmente bo
no por haci much pa reme-
dia e situation.
For di tempu bieu caba, ta-
batin regla pa tene cuenta cu
trafico su problemanan. Pero
hendenan di antes tabata hacid
di nan mes manera.

Un Direccion
Si algun dia bo haya bo mes
coriendo den direction robez
riba un caya di un solo direc-
cion, kizas bo ta pensa ta ken
a bini cu e idea ey.
Wel, bo por tira falta riba
Romanonan pasobra nan tam-
be tabatin caya cu un solo di-
reccion. E cayanan small cu
hopi curva na Roma tabata
forza hendenan den garoshi di
pasa asina cerca di muraya-
nan, cu nan tabata rasca e
wielnan. Y asina ta cu "inge-
nieronan di trafico" finalmen-
te a pone regla cu "garoshinan
liher, garoshinan di entrega
cos, y stoelnan pa carga hende
master move den un solo direc-
cion".

Peligro Scondi
Hopi chofer a haya nan den
mal ora pasobra un senjal di
para auto tabata kita for di
bista door di mata of un cru-
zada tapA door di maishi
haltu. Na Inglatera den sig-
lo 13, lo e no tabatin ningun
clause di dificultad. Na 1285 un
ley a word past cu ta bisa
cu "Tur mata y yerba meter
worde cortA te na un distancia
di 2000 pia na cada banda di

caminda, entire ciudadnan cu
mercado pa asina evita cu la-
dronnan por sconde den nan".
Awendia e peligro real ta
ora bo no por mira un vehicu-
lo bini di otro banda.

Ta Kiko Otro Ta Bieu Anto?

Ora bo cera bo faha di se-
guridad kizas bo ta pensa:
"Sikiera esaki ta un cos cu no
tabata exigi atencion den tem-
po bieu".
Pero realmente fahanan di
seguridad tabata conoci hopi
tempu caba, di un forma of
otro.
Varios di e garoshinan sin
cabai tabatin faha aden pa te-
ne pasaheronan den e vehiculo-
nan riba caminda malu y
ora e vehiculo para di repente.
Nan tabatin seguramente
nan problemanan, e biahero-
nan den tempu bieu, pero
cuantu di nan por a sonja cu
trafico lo a bira loke e ta awor
aki?
Asina tantu tempu paas, na
anja 713 promer cu Cristu, un
profecia di Bijbel den buki di
Nahum, Capitulo 2, Versiculo
2, a haci prediccion di condi-
cionnan di trafico, cu hopi di
nos lo admiti cu ta net manera
BUbel a bisa.
E profeta ta bisa: "Nan ca-
rosanan lo core pa loco den ca-
yanan; nan lo dal contra otro
riba cayanan hanchu; nan lo
parce flambeu; nan lo core
manera lamper".
Ora abo y bo "carosa" ke-
da pega den trafico, y bo ta
consumi, rabia y perde pa-
senshi, corda cu e situation
malo aki no ta algo nobo.

Traffic Problems

In the Early Days
Drivers have been exper-
iencing traffic hangups for
years. And chances are they
will go right on experiencing
them in the future. There's
really not much you can do
about it.
Since the early days, rules
have been set to cope with
traffic problems. They did it
their own way.
One Way
If you have ever found
yourself going the wrong way
on a one-way street, maybe
you have wondered who
thought up such an idea.
Well, you can blame the an-
cient Romans for one-way
streets, too. The narrow, win-
ding streets of Rome forced
passing charioteers to core so
close that whitewalled wheels
were scuffed. So Roman "traf-
fic engineers" finally declared
that "light carriages, delivery
wagons and hand chairs must
proceed in one direction only."
Concealed danger
Many a motorist has been
booby-trapped by a stop sign
hidden by brush or a cross-
road obscured by a cornfield.
He would have had no trouble
back in thirteenth century
England. In 1285 a law was
passed providing that "All
trees and shrubs must be cut
down for a distance of 2,000
feet on either side of the
roads between market towns
to prevent the concealment of
robbers in them."
Nowadays the real hazard
is when you can't see an on-
coming vehicle.
So What Else Is Old?
As you buckle your safety
belt you might think to your-

Today Are Many;

They Existed, Too
self, "At least this is one thing
they didn't have to fool with
in the good old days."
But actually safety belts
have been around for a long
time in one form or another.
Several of the early horse-
less carriages featured belts
to keep the passengers inside
the vehicles on bumpy roads
and in sudden stops.

They certainly had their
problems, those hardy travel-
ers of bygone times, but how
many would have dreamed
that traffic could be like it
is today?
As long ago as 713 B.C. a
Biblical prophecy in the Book
of Nahum, Chapter 2, Verse
4, predicted traffic conditions
that many of us today would
say tells it like it is.
The prophet says: "The
chariots shall rage in the
streets: they shall jostle one
another in the broad ways:
they shall seem like torches;
they shall run like lightning."
When you and your "char-
iot" get jammed up in traffic
and you're beset by frustration
and impatience and anger,
just remember that there's
nothing especially new about
your predicament.

I Mechanical Shops Renoba

Since last year, the Mech-
anical Shops have undergone
considerable facelifting. A
number of machines in the
Machine Shop have been re-
arranged. The new setup of
machines in diagonal position
instead of blockwise formation
provides a safer and more
space-saving arrangement.
The whole interior of the
building, including machines
and some tools, now display
a new soft green coat. Also
certain sections of the floor
have been painted a light
green at the suggestion of the
tradesmen. This gives the shop
a fresher look and contributes
to better housekeeping.
In addition to the new lay-
out of the Machine Shop, some
$28,000 worth of tools have
been ordered to keep up with
the latest developments and
techniques in modern shops.
These tools include the new
granite surface plate for pre-
cision measuring and some
pneumatic and hydraulic tools,
used for rapid disassembly.
Some work procedures have
also been improved. Two new
square tanks have been in-
stalled for washing and treat-
ing pumps prior to repair.
Work benches have been pro-
vided at a more convenient
height for workmen to work
in disassembling and assem-
bling pumps and other equip-
ment. New racks have been
installed to hold incoming
equipment that need repair.
Now a dry electric heater re-
places an oil bath heater for

heating bearings from 1000 F.
to about 5500 F. All these im-
provements are intended to
improve safety and efficiency
in handling jobs on pumps or
in fabricating parts for refin-
ery equipment.
Charged with the shop mo-
dernization program, which
started last year, is Charles
Miannay of Mechanical-M&C.
He was assisted by Leo Chad-
wick, formerly a consulting
engineer with Aerospace Tech-
nology Corporation of Bloom-
field, N.J. Leo, a mechanical
engineer, is here as an inde-
pendent consultant on further
shop improvements.
He is a retiree of ITT with
25 years of service. His last
assignment with ITT was
supervisor of field engineers
engaged in Systems Equip-
ment and Engineering for the
465-L Strategic Air Command
Centers (SACC), a world-wide
communications center for the
