New Storage Facilities Improve Housekeeping and Efficiency at CTR

New racks are more "transparent" and elevated.
Rekkinan nobo ta mas transparent y eleva.

Where over 8,000 different
kinds of tools are stored in a
space of about 800 square feet
(including a tool and equip-
ment repair shop), an efficient
arrangement of tools is essen-
tial to fill the numerous re.
quests for tools and equipment
each day.
To improve operations of
the Central Tool Room, where
ten men serve Lago's crafts-
men, storage facilities were
modified. They are now prac-
tically completed. Using sub-
way grating and pipes, several
dozen replacement racks have
been built containing hundred
of bins which are more ac-

cessible. All bins are identi-
fied by name, number or size
of tools.
To improve housekeeping,
the racks are elevated about
eight inches from the floor,
while they are a little higher
than the previous racks. Some
of the racks are mounted on
wheels for easier handling.
For more efficient tool is-
suance to Machine Shop per-
sonnel, the former east coun-
ter was moved closer to the
other west counter used for
issuing tools to field person-
nel. The tool rooms of the
Machine and Electric Shops
have also been moved to the
CTR.
Whereas formerly employ-
ees had to wait outside, now
the field tool counter is inside
the building. Also the field
delivery pickup enters the
building to pick up tools or
to bring in tools and equip-
ment for repair.
The new racks and their
arrangement not only save
space, but contribute toward
improved housekeeping, saf-
ety, ventilation, illumination
and inventory control. All the
racks and bins are painted in
a soft green.
In charge of the design and
implementation of the new
storage facilities for the Cen-
tral Tool Room was Area Su-
pervisor Modesto Figaroa,
who took up this assignment
about two years ago. He is
now assigned as pipefitter in-
structor. At present R. A. We-
ver is CTR's area supervisor.

Groups of Tradesmen to Be Trained

To Set Up New HDS Mechanical Zone

The impact of Lago's Hy-
drodesulfurization Project on
the Mechanical Department
requires the setup of a new
HDS Mechanical Zone.
To prepare a number of su-
pervisors and tradesmen to
efficiently handle maintenance
and repair work on the four-
teen HDS units, a training
program has been developed
for various mechanical per-
sonnel.
Most of the training will be

conducted on job site or in
the Mechanical Shops. Some
classroom instruction also will
be given.
The training will be given
to equipment, metal and build-
ing tradesmen, and cleanout
men. Instructors will be fac-
tory engineers, Lago job train-
ing instructors, and other spe-
cialists.
The training program for
tradesmen will include disas-
sembling and reassembling

Following a one-year indus-

Not long ago a few scuba
and skindivers discovered a
rare type of flat circular
white shell in the waters
around Aruba. The shells are
the remains of a type of dead
sea urchins, popularly called
sand dollars (echinarachnius
parma).
Recently, when a tourist
saw a few of these shells at
the snackbar of Sev Luydens
(PR/IR) at the Natural Brid-
ge, he related to him the le-
gend of the Holy Ghost Shell.
The legend goes like this:
"This shell is one of the most
unusual of all marine life. The
five slits on the edge of the
shell represent the five wounds
in the body of Christ.
There is an Easter lily des-
ign in the center of the top,
with a five-point star in its
center, the Star of Bethlehem.
