Your Questions", employees
can now submit questions of
general interest to manage-
ment and receive replies in a
few days.
Under the new program,
any employee can dial 3500
and hear a recorded voice
answering: "Hello, this is your
program 'Management Ans-
wers Your Questions'. After
the beep, please state your
question which will be record-
ed automatically."
A caller may ask more than
one question since the record-
ing machine can run for hours
uninterruptedly.
The new line of communica-
tion is open 24 hours a day to
cover all shifts. An employee
may dial 3500 to phrase his
question in Papiamento or
English any time on Mondays
and Tuesdays. After complet-
ing his questionss, the caller


should hang up immediately
to free the line for others.
On Wednesday, Thursdays
and Fridays both the questions
and pertinent answers will be
played back in the two lang-
uages for the benefit of all
employees. Depending on the
length of the answer, one or
more answers are now record-
ed on an endless loop tape of
one "minute. A three-minute
answering tape has been or-
dered to answer more than one
question a day. On the last
three working days, a caller
need not say anything but
only listen.
An employee is free to ask
any question he wishes about
Lago. Every effort will be
made to have the answers
ready for playback on 3500 as
soon as possible. Personal ques-
tions will not be answered.

Mother of Longest
To pay homage to the
mothers of Lago employees on
Mother's Day (May 10), Lago
chose the mother of the long-
est service employee. She is
Federica Willems, 79, mother
of Gregorio N. Willems, an
acting Shift Foreman in Pro-
cess-Acid and Edeleanu who
will complete 37 years of
company service next month.
The Willems family lives at
Balashi 20.
Present on this occasion, in
addition to their five sons,
four daughters, 27 grandchild-
ren and eleven greatgrand-
children, were acting Division
Superintendent Erik Eriksen

The Willems family is clos-
ely associated with Lago. Mrs.
Willems' husband, Mr. Adal-
bertus Willems, 82, is a Lago
annuitant. He left on retire-
ment on May 31, 1952 after
27 years of service. He had
worked in Mechanical-Carpen-

"New Communication Medium For Better Understanding"
Much in the same way that our refinery uses raw
material for processing into finished products, so all
of us use information as raw material in our daily
life for making decisions: at work, at play or at
home.
Depending on the amount of information we have,
we make up our minds, we take action. Lack of suf-
ficient information may lead us to forming a wrong
impression or taking a course of action that we may
later regret.
To provide our employees with an additional med-
ium of two-way communication between employees
and management, we have initiated the "Manage-
ment Answers Your Questions" program. This sys-
tem works like a telephone answering service which
records questions from callers and plays back the
pertinent answers after a few days.
We know there are many "Why's" in your minds
about Lago and its operations. This new system will
help you become better informed about all phases
of our operations. By being better informed, we all
may gain more insight into our jobs and derive
greater satisfaction from our work.
I honestly hope this new communication medium
will work towards fostering good will, confidence
and better understanding, for the benefit of our em-
ployees, management and the community as a whole.

Management, Work Leader-
ship, Process Engineering As-
sistant, Advanced Instrument-
ation, and Fortran Program-
ming. In August last year,
Calvin completed a 4-year ICS
Chemical Engineering course.
A baseball fan, Calvin is al-
so president of the Heineken
Baseball Club.
Ildo began at Lago on Oc-
tober 22, 1953 as a junior clerk
in Colony Services-Operations.
He transferred to the former
Accounting Department on
May 4, 1955 and to Marine-
Agency Operations on Feb-
ruary 1963. Back to Comptrol-
ler's, he was assigned as se-
nior operation analysis clerk
and was promoted to senior
accounting clerk on October
30, 1968. Since that date he
had acted on various occasions
as an accountant.
In addition to shorthand and
typing courses, Ildo followed
Lago-sponsored ICS courses
in Practical Accounting and
General Accounting and com-
pleted an Effective Writing
course.
After attending St. Domini-
cus College, Ildo followed a
three-year HBS-B curriculum.
He is an avid football fan and
likes gardening. He also finds
time for community work. For
about eight years he had been
a board member of Estrella
Club, was secretary of the
Aruba Table Tennis Associa-
tion and president and secre-
tary of the Santa Cruz Parish
Council. Under his presidency,
the Santa Cruz Credit Union
is now the first to complete


its own building in Aruba.
Arnold came to Lago in In-
dustrial Relations-Training on
September 3, 1945. Progressing
through the electrician helper
categories, he was promoted
to electrician A in Aug. 1956.
Arnold has acted as an area
supervisor since 1965. At pre-
sent he is an electrical job
training instructor in Mecha-
nical.
At Lago he followed courses
in Principles of Work Direc-
tion I, Practical Electricity,
Automatic Telephone, Effect-
ive Management. Earlier this
month he completed a 180-
hour course in Reading Elec-
trical Blueprints. Other cours-
es he took include a 3-year ex-
tensive Basic Electricity priv-
ate course and a professional
photography course.
His spare time he dedicates
to music and photography.
He is director of the YMCA
Band and of the YMCA music
class.
Timoteo joined the compa-
ny as a Lago Vocational
School student on September
25, 1950. He was assigned to
Boiler Shop on September 1,
1953 where he advanced to
boilermaker A in August 1964.
Timoteo has been an acting
area supervisor in Mechani-
cal-M&C-Metals Section since
July 1965.
At Lago he followed a Lay-
out Course in 1954 and at the
Aruba Technical School he
completed a course in Electri-
cal Arc Welding in 1963. He
is now following an ICS Me-
chanical Engineering course.
His hobbies include carpentry
and cabinetmaking.

"Hotel Victoria" Offers 30 Rooms

On Main Street in Oranjestad


On Nassaustraat, the main
street of Oranjestad, Fran-
gois (Fanfa) Croes in Februa-
ry this year opened the two-
story "Hotel Victoria". A bu-
siness type hotel, it offers
thirty airconditioned double
rooms each with private bath,
an airconditioned bar and din-
ing room, and a conference
room for the convenience of
travel agents and for holding
small receptions.
The kitchen and dining room
with capacity to handle over
60 guests is in charge of Chef
Theo de Kort. A graduate
from Holland, Theo has expe-
rience at several large hotels
in Holland, Aruba and Cura-
cao.
Hotel Victoria also offers
catering service for parties
and receptions outside the ho-
tel. The kitchen also offers a
special dish every day, inclu-
ding mostly local dishes.
The bar is in charge of Ja-

experience.
Future plans call for build-
ing a "sidewalk cafe" on the
outside of the hotel.
Built under supervision of
Fanfa Croes himself, the hotel
had cost over Fls. 300,000. The
architect was Den Oduber.
This hotel project is the first
one in the Netherlands Antil-
les to receive financial aid
(through a loan) from the Na-
tional Investment Bank in
Holland.

In Handling All

are accidentally poisoned every
year by drugs and medicines
taken because of mere curio-
sity.
Your child's safety is the
prime reason Lago is introdu-
cing a new type of child-resis-
tant vial or container for pills.
