K. T. Wong Joins ERE's Team

For Hydrodesulfurization Project


K. T. Wong of Mechanical-
Engineering joined the ERE
Project Management team for
the HDS Project on July 1.
He will assist in field engin-
eering and construction coor-
dination requirements and re-
port to ERE's Resident En-
gineer R. J. Thonus. Mr.
Wong's initial area of res-
ponsibility will consist of the
"offsite" work being underta-
ken by the prime contractor,
Parsons Corporation. Current
activities in this area consist
of tank demolition, piping re-
location and tie-ins for the
Seasonal Storage program and
revamp work at Powerhouse
No. 1. Concurrent with this
assignment Mr. Wong is pro-
moted to Regional Supervisor.
Mr. Wong is the second
Staff-Management engineer to
be assigned to the HDS Pro-
ject Management team. Mr.
M. Angela of Mechanical -
M&C is in Parsons' office in


Frankfurt, Germany, assisting
in the review of engineering
work.
Mr. Wong, who joined La-
go September 3, 1956 as a
Student B in Mechanical-Elec-
trical, attended the St. Au-
gustinus College. He followed
an electrical course at the
Aruba Technical School from
1953 to 1957 and a one-year
technical course at the Lago
Vocational School from 1956
to 1957. With a Lago Scholar-
ship Foundation grant he at-
tended the Marianapolis Prep
School in 1957. He subse-
quently studied at the Villa-
nova University of Pennsylva-
nia, where he graduated as a
civil engineer in 1963.
Back to Lago on October
22, 1963, he was assigned as
an engineer on various rota-
tional assignments in Mechan-
ical Engineering. Subsequent-
ly, he acted as Assistant Su-

J. Keevan, 44, took over as
Lago's Comptroller. He re-
places Ken D. Seeger, who
has transferred to Enjay Che-
mical Company in New York.
Mr. Seeger came to Lago on
August 29, 1966 from Creole.

Supervisory Post in Mechanical-M&C


Effective June 1, 1969, Luis
R. Giel and Thomas H. Ber-
mudes advanced to higher
posts in Mechanical's Mainten-
ance & Construction Division.
Luis was promoted to Regio-
nal Supervisor, while Thomas
became Area Supervisor.
Luis joined the Company in
1946 as a Lago Vocational
School student. Following his
graduation in 1950, he was
assigned as Machinist Helper
"B" in Mechanical-Machinist.
where he progressed to Mach-
inist "B" in 1957. A year la-
ter he transferred to Techni-
cal-Engineering as Jr. Engin-
eering Assistant "B". Here
he progressed to Engineering
Technician in 1963. In Octo-
ber, 1964 he went back to the
Mechanical Department. In
1966, while working in Mech.
anical-Engineering, he was
sent on a six-month loan as-
signment with Fertica in
Costa Rica and El Salvador
as an Equipment Inspection
Advisor.


Luis was promoted to Area
Supervisor in Mechanical-
M&C in March, 1967.
He has followed the Mech-
anical Design Course, Effect-
ive Management Course and
attended the Organization
Development Lab.
A football enthusiast, he
also likes fishing. Luis, his
wife and seven children live
at Noord.
Thomas H. Bermudes, a
1955 Lago Vocational School
graduate, attains management
status with his June 1 prom-
otion. He has spent all of his
Lago career in Mechanical,
where he started in the Yard
section as Cleanout Helper.
In 1959 he became Cleanout
Man.
Thomas was promoted to
Cleanout Corporal in 1963.
Following a training assign-
ment in Mechanical-Equip-
ment Inspection Section, he
returned to M&C as Acting
Area Supervisor up to his
June 1 promotion.


Chemical Engineer Adolf Genser


Adolf Genser Rejoins Laboratory;

Returns as a Chemical Engineer


Recently Adolf Genser, 29,
returned to Lago from the
University of South Carolina
where he graduated as a
chemical engineer.
He left Technical-Labora-
tories as a Laboratory Assis-
tant in 1965 to study under
the Lago Educational Assis-
tance Program. He began at
Lago on January 3, 1963 as a
Junior Analyst in the Labor-
atories.
A MULO-A graduate from
St. Augustinus College of
San Nicolas, Adolf followed a
Thomas has completed the
Effective Management Course
here at Lago. He is married
and has two daughters, 12
and 10 years old. On his next
vacation he is planning to
visit Colombia.

alyst School in Rotterdam.
He subsequently completed a
one-year training at the Delft
Chemical Analyst School.
From 1960 to 1962 he follow-
ed a practical training at the
Unilever Research Laboratory
at Vlaardingen, Holland.
Adolf is now assigned in
Technical-Laboratories as a
chemical engineer. He will be
mainly responsible for gasoil
and kerosene jet type fuel
blending.
During his 4-year study in
the U.S., Adolf was accomp-
anied by his wife Dixiane and
two children. He is brother of
August Genser, Process Fore-
man in Process-Oil Move-
ments.

Boulevard Esso Servicenter Opens;

Offers Round the Clock Service


Esso's eighth Servicenter
in Aruba was opened Satur-
day, June 28, 1969 at 9 a.m.
on Lloyd G. Smith Boulevard.
Esso Dealer of the new Bou-
levard Esso Servicenter is
Lago annuitant H.P.E. (Bet-
tie) Ecury, who was general
foreman Operations in Mech-
anical-Materials when he re-
tired from Lago in December,
1965.
This is the first servicenter
in the western part of the is-
land and Oranjestad area to
offer service 24 hours a day.
It is also the first Esso Servi-
center with a pump to dis-
pense diesel motor fuel.
Being just west of the Pub-
lic Works office on an area
of 3655 square meters, the
servicenter is conveniently
located at the south-western


end of Oranjestad, away from
the congested town area.
Its four double pumps are
fed from two 8,000-gallon un-
derground tanks, one for Es-
so extra and the other for
regular gasoline. The diesel
motor fuel pump is served by
a 3,000-gallon tank.
The spacious area contains
an office with display room,
a wash bay, a grease bay,
compressor room, tire repair
room, battery room, lockers
and toilets, storeroom, park-
ing areas on the east and
west sides for some 25 cars,
an air dispensing unit and
two pump islands with show
cases for tire, battery and ac-
cessories.
The office is practically an
all glass-paneled building,

One idea of Mr. Arendsz
called for installing a drain
hole west of Tank No. 423.
The other suggested to hook
up paging system on the 110-
volt emergency at the Tele-
phone Exchange switch room.
Mr. Lo-Fo-Sang's first idea
was to install double lock on
the Loading Pumphouse sub-
station so that operators can
enter the substation in case
of emergency. His other idea
was to protect onlookers of
Lago's Science Fair from
possible accidents.
Mr. Semeleer suggested to
provide stair traces on all
stair treads of the new Ref-
ining Division Control House.
His second idea called for
relocating existing water line
from present location north
of the Telephone Exchange
building to a new location.

crochet bedspread was made by Lydia Leslie of Comptrol-
ler's Office Services. It measures approximately 11'x12',
has pink flowers, green leaves and a white background.
The 195 blocks, each measuring 8/z square inches, took
one year to crochet. She also made the blouse she is wear-
ing in one month.

their Youth Work
thanks to Lago on behalf of
the committee and the boy
scouts and said the donation
will greatly assist them with
the needed repairs on the
scouts' club building on the
Mgr. Niewindtstraat in San
Nicolas.
The "St. Joris" and "Aro-
wakken" scout groups are
part of the Antillean Scout-
ing Federation. The total
number of these two groups
exceeds 100 boys and are un-
der the leadership of nine
adults.

presentatives.
Mr. Kock will be accompan-
ied on his new assignment by
his wife Greta and two daugh-
ters, ages 5 and 3.

curement Supervisor in Me-
chanical Materials from 1965
to 1966.
In July, 1966, he was as-
signed for one year to the Es-
so Refinery in Rotterdam,
where he worked as Field En-
gineer in the Field Construc-
tion Section and as Area Su-
pervisor in the Aromatics
Plant.
After his return to Lago in
1967, Mr. Wong was assigned
as Field Engineer on the Pier


Modernization Project and as
coordinator for the Tugboat
Replacement Project. He was
promoted to Senior Engineer
on August 1, 1968.

Mr Wong is a member of
the Lago Seminar Committee
and of the Lago Scholarship
Foundation Screening Adviso-
ry Committee.

Mr. Wong's hobbies include
painting, shooting motion pic-
tures with his 8 mm. camera
and reading. In 1967 he was
married to a Danish nurse,
Inger Margrethe. They have
one baby boy.
