Central Tool Room Backs You Up

With Proper Tool for All Jobs

A place oftentimes busy as
a beehive is Lago's Central
Tool Room. Charged with
storing, supplying, repairing
and maintaining thousands of
tools, this tool room is locat-
ed in the Central Shops build-
ing.
Daily its personnel handle
a few hundred incoming and
outgoing tools and equipment.
Tools returned for repairs or
maintenance number about a
hundred a day.
Among its stock of some
2000 different types of items
there are such large pieces as
the hot tap machines and tiny
items, such as a 1/16" drill.
Although the Central Tool
Room has its own pickup to
deliver tools to job sites, shop
and field personnel and con-
tractors also come and pick
up their tools. Tools are sup-
plied against receipt.
To facilitate turnaround
work on units, the Central
Tool Room also has a tool
trailer which is stationed at
the job site.
The Central Tool Room has
four sections: the administra-
tion office, the repair room,
the tool room supply counter
and the shop tool room, where
tools are kept particularly for
the Electrical, Machine and
Instrument shops.

Some special equipment
kept by the Tool Room in-
clude hot tap machines, air
hoists, chain blocks, air grin-
ders, tube rolling machines,
rivet busters, pull-lifts, power
saws, wagon drilling machine,
impact wrenches, rope blocks.

There is also an assortment
of safety equipment in stock,
such as safety belts, oxygen
regulators, welding hoods,
rubber goggles, gloves, boots,
respirators and gasmasks.

Some of these require spe-
cial handling. The rubber
gloves and masks, for in-
stance, are washed in a wash-
ing machine, sterilized and
stored in a warm cabinet af-
ter they are returned.

Whenever a tool or piece of
equipment is returned, it's in-
spected for proper and safe
operation. This is especially
so with chain blocks, hoists,
safety belts and other protec-
tive equipment.

"An important link in
Mechanical operations, the
CTR has a constant job of
supplying the proper tools in
safe operating condition to
craftsmen to enable them to
do their job well," says Area
Supervisor Modesto Pigaroa,
who is in charge of the Cen-
tral Tool Room operations.

A new product introduced
by Esso Research is the solid
fuel used as a safe and clean
fire starter. The solid fuel is
comprised of a petroleum pro-
duct held in minute droplets
isolated within the microcells
of a foam structure. It is 90%
petroleum, but to the eye and
touch is dry and solid.
Solid fuels are used in mis-
sile and space programmes
primarily for safety reasons.
An Esso home product, the
solid fuel can be conveniently
used for camping, barbecue

Called Esso Fire Starter,
this solid fuel for home use

The Esso Fire Starter is

I Yachtsman Chilcott Stops Here

On World Cruise With Aventura

Of the many foreign yachts
stopping at Aruba, the "Aven-
tura" sailing under American
flag is probably the first
large one that offers accom-
modation to 22 passengers
who wish to cruise along.
The 147-foot Aventura,
which can cruise at 9 knots
with her two diesel engines, is
owned by Don Chilcott from
Los Angeles, who is also the
captain. He has a six-man
crew.
Captain Chilcott, an ocean
yachtsman, is cruising the
Caribbean with his wife and
two boys and a girl. There are
also a few passengers aboard.

After visiting Curacao, Bo-
naire, Margarita, the Virgin
Islands and St. Thomas, Cap-
tain Chilcott plans to head for
Africa and the Mediterranean.
The Aventura is spending a
few weeks in Aruba.
He purchased the yacht one
and a half years ago in Pan-
ama and started his trip Nov-
ember 30 last year from En-
senada, Baja California, Me-
xico.
Skipper Chilcott holds some
records in ocean sailing. He
was on the Ticonderoga in the
Honolulu-Los Angeles race and
holds a record in the San
Diego-Acapulco ocean race.

The 147-foot U.S. yacht "Aventura" is probably largest one
to visit Aruba which can accommodate 22 passengers on
world cruise.

New Gate House at Gate No. 3

Stands in Center of the Road

A new Gate House built in
the center of the road in front
of the General Office Build-
ing replaces the old gate
house at Gate no. 3, which
was located on the north side
of the road.

Smaller in size with a width
of 6 feet and 12 feet long pa-
rallel to the road, the new
gate house is 12 feet more
outward or eastward. The re-
finery fence on the south has
been moved 24 feet eastward.
The push-button robot gates
are now also some seven feet
more eastward, but are still
west of the new structure.
A special feature of the new
structure is a one-piece over-
hanging flat roof of reinforc-
ed concrete. The 4-%-inch
thick roof and asbestos walls
are built to resist corrosion,
so the structure will require
little or no maintenance.
While offering visibility all
around, when completed the
building will also give ade'
quate protection against wea-

their conditions.
On each side of the road,
the sidewalks have been mov-
ed 3 to 5% feet to provide
two 16-foot wide lanes. On the
north side, space for parking
cars for brief periods has been
made available.
Another improvement in-
side the fence is a wider cor-
ner to the right for safer
traffic.
The pedestrian gate on the
south side has been moved a
little and built into the new
fence extending eastward. The
pedestrian gate on the north
side moved a bit eastward on
the walkway.

new location permits him to
carry out his duties more ef-
ficiently from the center of

The more streamlined gate
house is being built at a to-
tal cost of $9,900. Project
leader is Carlos B. Bislip.

in Holland was officially
opened March 15 at Born.
Located near Highway E-9
from Amsterdam and some 10
kilometers from Maastricht,
this is the first of three Esso
Motor Hotels planned for Hol-
land.

Each of the motor hotel's
44 bedrooms is equipped with
private bath or shower, tele-
phone, radio and optional TV.
Guests may choose from a
menu of international dishes
in the restaurant, accommo-
dating 120 people. If pressed
for time, they may patronize
the coffee shop which holds
60 people.

The cozy bar, decorated in
Victorian style, is another at
traction of the Esso Motor
Hotel at Born.

An Esso Service Station

providing complete service ad-
joins the motor hotel and
there is free parking for 120
cars.

Elsewhere in Europe, 18
Esso Motor Hotels are in
operation: 9 in Sweden, 5 in
Germany, 2 in Italy, and 1
each in Denmark and Eng-
land.
