cal Laboratories in 1956 as

in Lab. No. 3. In 1964 he was
promoted to the position of sen-
ior engineer. He worked in the
Economics & Planning Division
for four years, but returned to


the Laboratories in May last
year.
Pete has a B.S. degree in
chemical engineering from the

Several new features have
been added to the CYI Plan ef-
fective January 1, 1968.

Minimum Award Now FIs. 40

To place more value on em-
ployees' ideas, the minimum
award for an adopted CYI has
been raised from Fls. 25 to
Fls. 40. Also, the time consum-
ing point scoring system for
ideas with intangible savings or
pertaining to safety has been
eliminated. The award for such
ideas is now Fls. 40.

"Problem Area" Ideas Earn
FIs. 50 Extra

An extra bonus award of
Fls. 50 is now paid for adopted
ideas pertaining to a "problem
area". This is an area where it
is felt operations can be im-
proved. Each month, the CYI
Committee will select one area
from departmental suggestions


Ideas Handled Faster

Ideas with intangible savings
or pertaining to safety can now
be processed much faster. The
exclusion of the scoring system
curtails the supervisor's and the
CYI Committee's time when re-
viewing such ideas. It also elim-
inates the inequity in ratings
from different reviewers. The
new award is higher than the
average award previously given.

More Recognition for
Supervisors

To give more recognition to
first line supervisors, the "Dia-
rio" and "Esso News" will pub-
licize every six months the
names of supervisors whose em-
ployees submit (a) the largest
number of adopted ideas, and
(b) ideas that produce the high.
est savings.

Gets New Chairman, Albino Yarzagaray Gains Experience

Secretary For 1968 Through Canada Training Assignment


Edward O'Brien and Kenneth
Brook have been appointed
chairman and secretary of the
Lago Science Fair Committee.
They replace former members
N. P. Schindeler and H. C. Mil-
ler.
Mr. Schindeler left on retire-
ment at the end of last year.
Mr. Miller recently left for the
U.S.A. to accept a new assign.
ment with Esso Research & En-
gineering at Florham Park,
New Jersey.
The committee's new chair-
man, Mr. O'Brien, recently re-
turned to Lago after a loan as-
signment with Esso Pappas in
Greece.
Mr. Brook was employed last
year as an engineer in Lago's
Mechanical Department. He
holds a H.T.S. degree from Hol-

A. Yarzagaray
Alby spent a year at the En-
gineering Division of Imperial
Oil Enterprises Ltd., headquar-


ters of various Canadian refin-
eries, situated at Sarnia, Onta-
ria. During nine months he
gathered added experience in
the Mechanical Design Section
doing design work in connection
with the study and revamping
of existing units. Quite an ex
perience for Alby was working
on their Oil Movements project,
which consisted of computerized
storage, handling and blending
middle distillate and gasoline
products.
He subsequently trained for
two months in their Cost Esti-
mating Section where he be-
came acquainted with the latest
estimating methods involving
the use of computers.
During the last month of his
assignment he worked in the
General Maintenance Section,

ations to the Sint Martinus
Foundation, the La Salle Youth
Group and to the Norwegian
Seamen's Mission.
The La Salle Youth Group
has more than 500 members div-
ided over four clubs. It is run
by the Catholic friars who direct
a sports and social program
designed to combat juvenile del-
inquency.


Lago's donation to the Sint
Martinus Foundation will assist
this organization in carrying
out work among their wards
staying at the "Imeldahof."
Seamen from Scandinavian
countries calling at Aruba are
provided wholesome recreation
at the Norwegian Seamen's Mis-
sion. Lago's assistance will help
the mission in meeting the costs
of sponsoring such activities.

closely with Charlie Easton and

spection experts, who in the
past have visited Lago. Mr.

Alby, a mechanical engineer-
ing graduate of the HTS in
Breda, Netherland, started to
work in the Mechanical Depart-
ment's Technical & Administra-
tion Section in 1962. In January,

Gains Experience
acting area supervisor assigned
to field work. Before leaving on
training assignment in Decem-
ber, 1966, he had been acting
supervising engineer in the
Project Services Section.
During his assignment, he
joined the Jaycees in Sarnia
where he had the opportunity of
giving several talks about
Aruba.
Alby also visited Expo 67 and
was greatly impressed by the
well-organized Montreal fair.
Before returning to Aruba he
drove south to Miami where he
spent several days.
Alby is currently working in
the Mechanical-General Engin-
eering Section.


Mechanical Engineering personnel enjoy themselves at a bar-
becue-style Christmas party held at the Aruba Golf Club last
month. They donated FIs. 130 to the Aruba Charity Assn.
