Esso News Qets "Mini" Format
With this issue, the Aruba Esso News launches its new "Mini"
format. We believe this communications step forward will make
possible a more readable and creatively edited publication.
In recent years, Lago's communications efforts have made sev-
eral advances. In 1964, the Diario was inaugurated. Later that year,
Dial 7 was installed. Last year, Dial 7 was made available to the
public. The several hundred calls into Dial 7 made each month from
outside numbers indicate this is both an employee and a public
service.
Earlier this year, we changed printing processes so we could in-
clude more timely photographs in the Esso News.
In July, Lago pioneered the use of videotape communications
among all the Jersey affiliates.
In developing these many changes, one of our main objectives
has been to provide the most effective communications channels
which serve our employees.
Today, each of our communications media is designed for parti-
cular kinds of information. With this change to the "mini" format,
we are gaining a flexibility of design that makes it possible to give
special treatment to fewer stories.per page. Naturally, the number
of pages will be increased.
Since most of our issues will be eight or more pages, we can
once again take advantage of the two page center spread for
visually striking information.
In communications as in all things, change is the constant com-
panion of progress. We believe our readers will be better served as
a result of this format change.

Esso News Ta fHaa Forma "Mini"
Cu e numero aki Esso News ta lanza su forma "Mini" nobo. Nos
ta kere cu e paso dilanti aki den comunicacion ta haci posibel un
publication cu ta mas facil pa leza y editA cu mas creatividad.
Den anjanan recien, Lago su esfuerzonan riba tereno di comuni-
cacion a haci varies advance. Na 1964 compania a cuminza usa Dia-
rio. Mas laat den e anja ey Dial 7 a cuminza funciona. Anja pasA
Dial 7 a keda na disposicion di public en general. Various centen-
ares di jamada na Dial 7 di pafor di compania ta proba cu esaki ta
un servicio tantu pa empleadonan como pa public.
Mas tempran den e anja coriente nos a cambia e sistema di druk,
pa nos por inclui mas fotografia di actualidad den Esso News.
Na Juli Lago a present su mes como promer promoter di e
medio di comunicacion cu jama videotape, entire tur e companianan
formacion cu ta haci bista y jama atencion.
Den comunicacion, manera ta den tur cos, cambio ta e com-
paflero constant di progress. Nos ta kere cu nos lectornan lo tin
mihor servicio como resultado di cambio di e forma di Esso News.

Firefighting and Safety
Two CYTs relating to fire-
fighting and safety, submitted
by Henk Reeberg, Comptroller's,
and Meleno Pourier, Mechani-
cal-Instrument, were awarded
recently.
Henk Reeberg received an Ini-
tial award of Fls. 40 for a sug-
gestion to construct a device to
hold firehoses on top of tanks.
The idea was not adopted as
suggested, but prompted revised
firefighting procedures.
Meleno Pourier's suggestion
to build a walkway to the fire
hydrant west of the Hydro
plant was adopted as a safety
item. He received an initial
award of Fs. 40 for this idea
which simplifies getting to the
hydrant and minimizes hazards
of tripping over pipes in the
surrounding area.

Process Operator!

Central Computer
A course for teaching Process
operators to operate the units
with the assistance of a central
computer is presently under
way. The training program is
designed to acquaint the parti-
cipants with the new equipment
now being installed in the Refin-
ing Division Control House. Title
of the course is "Process Oper-
ator Training for Refining Div-

When completed, the center
will serve as the central control
house for all units in the Cat
