were honored for their 25 years
of Lago service. They were pre-
sented with gold service watch-

ment manager.

A new Dry-Blast Cleaning facility has been placed in service
in the Mechanical Shops. The unit, a rather large piece of equip-
ment for a workshop, consists of a 15 feet wide, 25 feet long and

An Aid in Molding a Career
Since it was started in 1955, the Lago Summer Training Pro-
gram has helped more than 260 students. It was conceived to
give industrial experience to students during their vacation.
The program enables students to apply in practice what they
study at college. This not only develops the students' proficien-
cy. It makes possible understanding of many things that are
usually not taught at school.
The training program also has a direct benefit to the com-
munity since it helps return more responsible citizens to the
community when they finish college.
This year again, for the twelfth consecutive year, Lago is
sponsoring some sixteen students who are undertaking a variety
of assignments. These assignments include the complete admin-
istration of the Summer Training Program, supervision of psy-
chological testing of workers and assistance in the mechaniza-
tion of the company's property system. Others are engaged in
building up reserve features for the Esso News, making cost
analysis of printing plates, and handling the administration of
CYI work. Most of the assignments involve frequent contacts
with employees.
For some students, naturally, the assignments may be more
rewarding than for others. It's not always possible to assign stu-
dents to a job that is directly related to their major field of
study. In any case, the work experience gives them a better in-
sight about industry, while building up their sense of responsi-
bility.
As PR/IR Manager B. E. Nixon commented, "the program is
intended to supplement school training and also to give students
a taste of possible future careers."
In one case, the training actually helped the student to change
to another career.

Helps Students Become Useful Citizens z"
From early youth through adulthood, the student constantly
is taught new things to prepare him or her for a future career. -
But people are different. And the learning process is not the
same for every pupil.
To assist the slow learners, there are two special schools in


Aruba where these children can
receive training to help them
become contributing members
of the community. At these
schools, the teacher, who is
professionally trained for this
learning situation, gives indivi-
dual instruction and devotes
special attention to each pupil.
The books and other teaching
aids are also adapted to help
the children understand the ma-
terial better.
Emma School
The Emma School was built
in 1958 and is located west of
Wilhelmina Stadium in Oranje-
stad. The school has 130 punils

for boys consists mainly of car-
pentry, painting and plaiting.
The older girls attend sewing,
cooking and household classes.
They learn to operate hand,

Royal Couple's Visit and ELMAR Make

Fairy Tale A Reality to Aruba Youth
"Once upon a time, there was a prince and a princess who .."
This fairy tale became real to the children of Aruba when Prince
Claus and Princess Beatrix visited Aruba from July 22 to 25.
This tale became more real when ELMAR sponsored a drawing
contest in which the children could feature the royal visit. With
their imagination diligently at

Plant To Be Enlarged
And Completed in 1968
The size of the Jersey Stand-
ard fertilizer complex at Rot-
terdam, Netherlands, to be built
with the assistance of Esso En-
gineering, will be increased 50
per cent under new plans an-
nounced last month by Esso
Chemie N.V.
The plans now include facili-
ties to produce, on a stream-day
basis, 1,500 tons of ammonia,
570 tons of urea, 770 tons of
nitric acid and 1,120 tons of
calcium ammonium nitrate.
Esso Netherlands first dis-
closed plans last July for a Rot-
terdam ammonia plant that
would have a capacity of 1,000
tons a day and convert a por-
tion of this into urea. Jersey
Standard has since formed Es-
so Chemie complex which will
cost $62.5 million and will be
finished in the summer of 1968.
The ammonia unit will be
five times larger than any other
Jersey Standard installation.
