Jersey Standard's I

Report To Meeting
Chairman of the Board, Micha
annual meeting of shareholders
Jersey) at Cleveland, Ohio, May 1
Mr. Haider first outlined the
management of the company. Th
regional coordination of the
operations of the affiliates.
Mr. Haider continued: "To
coordinate our oil and gas in-
terests in Europe, we have
created a new entity, Esso Eu-
rope Incorporated, with head-
quarters in London.
"These moves, bringing under
regional organization most of
our affiliate activities outside
the United States and Canada,
will result in greater operating
efficiency and will equip the
company to deal more effecti-
vely with future growth."
Mr. Haider also mentioned
that this year, for the first
time, the company management
is recommending the election of
non-employees as directors of
the company.
Chemical Operations
Turning to operations, Mr.
Haider said: "In 1963 we esta-
blished Esso Chemical Company
to coordinate and expand our
international chemical interests
and also to begin a separation
of chemical operations from oil
operations. These efforts have
been progressing satisfactorily,
and in the last year Esso
Chemical made plans to set up
regional companies, two of
which are now in existence -.
Esso Chemical S.A., to coordi-
nate chemical activities in Eu-
rope, and Esso Chemical Inter-
America, to coordinate oper-
ations and investments in Cen-
tral and South America and in
the Caribbean.
Trends Affecting Company
Turning to some of the
broad trends that could affect
the company, Mr. Haider said:
"The basic favorable factor un-
derlying the growing markets
we foresee for our products is
the continued economic growth
expected in the countries in
which Jersey affiliates operate.
Rates of economic growth in
free world countries have, in
general, been relatively high in
recent years and should con-
tinue so in 1966. In the United
States the economy is booming.
We have returned to a full em-
ployment level, industrial capa-
city is being fully utilized in
many areas, but inflationary
pressures are increasingly be-
ing felt in both the domestic
economy and in our balance of
international payments.
"Jersey again made a major
and increased favorable contri-
bution to the U.S. payments po-
sition in 1965. This year, we
expect to continue to cooperate
with the government's volun-
tary balance of payments pro-
gram. And I am certain that
Jersey will be among the lead-
ers of American industry in its
efforts to strengthen the dollar.
