Refineries Will Be Built

In Jamaica and Antigua;

Jersey Interest in Kingston
Two new refineries are scheduled
for construction in the Caribbean.
Standard Oil Company (New Jersey)
will construct one in Jamaica and
the West Indies Oil Company will
build one in Antigua. It is not at all
unlikely that former employee who
helped build Lago into one of the
world's largest refineries will use
their skills in assisting the construc-
tion of both these refineries.
The Jamaica refinery will be a
28,000-barrel-a-day plant in King-
ston. In early stages of construction
of allied facilities in the harbor, un-
expected difficulty arose. Dredgers
discovered that the harbor floor was
littered with boulders up to three
feet in diameter. They were dumped
there years ago after serving as in-
bound ballast carried by sailing
ships. The boulders are reminders of
Kingston's and Port Royal's niche in
Caribbean maritime history.
The West Indies Oil Company's
refinery will have an initial capacity
of 10,000 barrels. The company is
owned by the Standard Oil Com-
pany (Indiana) and Natomas Com-
pany of San Francisco. Crude oil
will come from Lake Maracaibo
where approximately 2700 barrels a
day are produced by an Indiana af-
filiate. Natomas is primarily a ship-
ping, mining and real estate com-
pany. The new refinery will cost
$16 million.
Esso SAF is proceeding with its
plans to construct a 60,000-barrel-a-
day refinery in the Marseilles area.
The refinery will be Esso SAF's third
in France and will boost its refining
capacity to about 170,000 barrels.

Children Give

Bislip Christmas

Ring of Happiness
The attractive family which
graces the cover of the Christmas
issue of the Aruba Esso News and
which is portrayed on this page is
that of Mr. and Mrs. Carlos B. Bis-
lip of Lago Heights. This family,
as with most families with child-
ren, find Christmas Day pretty
much a time for children. Much of
the real joy of Christmas and of
giving can be found in the excite-
ment and expressions of children.
Their happiness isn't always au-
dible; much of their delight is re-
gistered in their eyes. The eyes and
actions of the Bislip children tell
the excitement, the anticipation,
the happiness of Christmas morn-
ing, 1961. There are four children.
Their ages now are Carlito, seven-
teen months; Donny, four; Patsy,
five and Debby, eight. They were
joined by Elsa Coffi, a relative.
Both Bislips are Lago employees.
Mr. Bislip is a Technical Depart-
ment-Engineering employee with
thirteen years of service. He is
also a member of the Lago Sport
Park Board. Mrs. Bislip has ovei
eleven years' service in the Indus-
trial Relations Department.
They kindly consented to have
Esso News photographer Norman
Singh as their early Christmas
morning guest to capture the fam-
ily amidst Christmas happiness.
