two months of negotiations between
the Independent Oil Workers Union
of Aruba and Lago management The

non-industrial disability as provided
in the schedule under the Disability
Benefit Plan will be paid for fourteen
days instead of the former seven

Competition between departments that make up Lago will start
Jan. 1 in Lago's year-long Off-the-Job Safety Contest. Departmental
units, as listed on the back of the Lago Safety News, will have a

Lade's Safety-Oil Saving

Idea Named CYl-of-Month
An idea that started off as a safety suggestion has led to a reduction
in oil loss from slop oil tanks on Finger Piers 1 and 2 and No. 1 Gas
Dock. It was the ingenuity of M. I. Lade, safety inspector A in the
Industrial Relations Department's Safety Division, that produced the
combination safety-oil loss reduction idea which was adjudged the
November CYI-of-the-Month and

The contest is a major effort on
the part of Lago's executive man-
agement to increase employees'
awareness of the company's deep
concern for the high off-the-job dis-
abling injury rate and to promote
means of reducing these injuries. For
the last five years Lago employees
have incurred about twenty-five
times as many off-the-job disabling
injuries as inflicted on the job. The
economic loss resulting from off-the-
job injuries has been great to both
Lago and the disabled employee.
Also joining the year-long attack
on off-the-job injuries will be Lago's
fifteen-member Speakers Bureau. The
volunteer speakers, who completed a
special training course last month,
will take their individually-prepared

their family members all over the
