Foundation Awards 30 Scholarships

Made Possible By Lago Grants


The Lago Scholarship Foundation this week announced the names

of 30 Aruba youths who have received either new grants or renewals to

last years grants to allow them to continue higher education in Holland

and the United States Sixteen are receiving Foundation help for

the first time 14 students had grants renewed

The Foundation was established

last year by Lago Oil & Transport I

Danny Litwhiler the former outfielder for the Phillies Cardinals Braves
I il i Wmiiif r A M and Redlegs is in Aruba for several weeks conducting baseball clinics in
Seroe Colorado and the Lago Sport Park In the course of these training
sessions he gives tips on playing demonstrates proper methods of catching
pitching hitting running and sliding
During his career he played in two World Series with the Cardinals in
19J8 against the Yankees and in 19tf against the Broivns and also played
in the All Star Game In his best year he hit 305 with the Phillies and
ended his career as a player coach with the Redlegs in 1951 He is now
baseball coach at Florida State University
He took time out to talk on tape for the Aruba Esso Neios and his con
versation touched on all sorts of topics related to baseball Here in his
