Lago Celebrates Golden Anniversary

With Presentation of Mementos


On August 12, 1974, the peo-
le of Aruba and Lago celebrat-
-d a very special anniversary:

occasion Lago management pre-
ented to all employees that
morning special mementos as a


symbol of recognition of this im-
portant milestone in the history
of the Company.
The commemorative mementos
included a bronze medallion de-
picting an outline of Aruba with
the number 50 printed across

30-Year Service Awards


Henry E. Abma began his
employment with Lago on
August 14, 1944 as an Office
Boy B in the Accounting,
now Controller's Department.
He subsequently progressed
through the positions of Ap-
prentice Typist and Apprent-
ice Clerk to Junior Clerk in
April, 1948. Working in va-
rious sections of Accounting
he held the functions of Ac-
counts Receivable Clerk, Ac-
counts Payable Clerk and be-
came a Forms Designer A in
January, 1957. He was pro-
moted to Supervisor of the
Printing & Duplicating Sec-
tion on July 1, 1963. This
title was changed to Super-
visor-Office Services on Ja-
nuary 1, 1965, which is his
present position. On several
occasions, he acted as Sec-
tion Head-Office Services.
Henri's anniversary date
was on August 14.
Frans Maduro began his La-
go career on August 19, 1944
as a Laborer D in Mechani-
cal-Pipe and has spent all
his 30 years in the Pipe
Craft. He progressed to
Pipefitter Helper A in 1953
and was promoted to Pipe-
fitter B in 1966. His promo-
tion to Metal Tradesman A-


Pipe was effective October
1, 1969, which is his present
position.
Frans commemorated his
30th service anniversary on
August 19.

Jullo Domingo Rldderstap
(Domi) started with Lago on
June 19, 1944 as a Laborer
C in the former Accounting
Department. In March, 1945
he transferred to Acid & Ede-
leanu Plant as a Process Hel-
per D. He advanced to Pro-
cess Helper A in 1948 and
his promotion to Controlman
was in 1956. He became an
Assistant Operator in Janua-
ry, 1962 and his promotion
to Operator followed in June,
1965, which is his present
position. Domi spent almost
all of his thirty years in Acid
& Edeleanu where he acted
as Shift Foreman in 1967.
Domi celebrated his 30th
service anniversary on Au-
gust 22.

and Frank each with a gold me-
dallion in recognition of their
long service.
As part of the 50th anniversa-
ry program, a Lago Family Day
was held on Saturday, August
10, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ap-
proximately 9,000 persons took
part in the program, which in-
cluded a refinery tour and serv-
ing of cold drinks and snacks
at the Esso Club and presenta-
tion of a commemorative pen-
nant.

A Satisfied Maduro Family Returns

On Vacation to Native Island"


A satisfied and happy family,
Mr. and Mrs. Mathias J. Maduro
and five children, spent their
40-day vacation in Aruba with
relatives and friends after having
been away in Holland for ten
years. On September 27, 1964
Mathias, accompanied by his
eldest son Roland, left to work
for Verolme's Shipyard under
the Lago-sponsored resettlement
program. Mrs. Francisca Ma-
duro and two children, Suzie
and Jozef, were the first family
to resettle when they left Aruba
on November 1, 1964. The Ma-
duro family came back in July
with an additional daughter and
son born in Holland.
Mathias was well prepared as

years' experience when he took
up his new job and home in
Holland. He is now a Machinist
Technician employed with Impe-J
rial Chemical Industries (ICI) inj
Rotterdam.
Over the years, the Maduroj

Richard Amaya Earns Certificate

For Completing Corrosion Course


Recently Richard A. Amaya,
an Engineering Assistant A in
Technical-EIS now assigned to
HDS-II Mechanical Startup Task
Force, was awarded a certificate
from the American Society for
Metals, Metals Park, Ohio, for
completing a Corrosion Course.
The presentation was made to
him by Harmon Quaries, HDS-II
Mechanical Startup Leader.
The correspondence course
was fully sponsored by Lago.
Richard completed the 15-les-
son course in less than one
year, while studying in his free
time and during the peak of


workload on the HDS-II startup.
At present, Richard is follow-
Ing an Industrial Electronics
Course from Cleveland Electron-
ics Institute, also sponsored by
Lago. Previously, he took a
Process Training Program and
a Metallurgy Course at Lago.

Before joining Lago in Decem-
ber 1969, Richard completed
two VEV (Dutch Association for
Electrical Engineering Training)
night courses at the Aruba Tech-
nical School, one for Assistant
Electrician and one for Electri-
cian.

CROES, Juancito, died in Aruba on March 14, 1974 at age 53.
Mr. Croes, who had worked in Process-Light Hydrocarbons as 0
an Operator, retired on January 1, 1973 after 30 years of service.
CROES, Francisco, died in Aruba on May 23, 1974 at age 74. (
Mr. Croes had worked in Mechanical-Machinist as a Machinist
A. He retired In 1960 after almost 35 years of service. ,I
SCHOTBORG, Eduardo B., died In Curagao on April 12, 1974 at Cd
age 72. He had been employed in Mechanical-Pipe and worked n
as a Pipefitter A. He retired in 1961 after over 22 years of ser-
vice.
GEERMAN, Jan, died in Aruba on June 15, 1974 at age 76. He ,
was employed in Mechanical-Storehouse as a Salvage Helper A.
He retired in 1958 after over 20 years of service.
