New Mechanical Manager Lorenson

Brings Varied Experience to Lago


Gil F. Lorenson, until recent-
ly Assistant Cartagena Mana-
ger of International Petroleum.
Limited (Colombia), joined Lago
June 1st as Mechanical Depart-
f ment Manager. Mr. Lorenson,
who began his Exxon career at
Lago 22 years ago as a Process
Engineer in the Technical De-
partment, brings a wide variety
of managerial experience to La-
Sgo.
After being assigned from

1952 to 1955 in Aruba, he trans-
ferred to the Refining Coordina-
tion Department of the Standard
Vacuum Corporation in New
York. In 1956 he transferred to
Sumatra, Indonesia, as Process
Engineer, later serving in va-
rious managerial capacities. In
1962, he transferred to Singa-


pore as Assistant Manager of
Supply and Transportation. In
1963, he was assigned to King-
ston, Jamaica, as Refinery Pro-
cess Superintendent. He was
named Project Manager for the
Campana Refinery Expansion in
Buenos Aires in 1966 and two
years later he became Refinery
Manager in Talara, Peru. In
1968, he returned to Kingston,
Jamaica, as Plant Superinten-
dent and later became Manager
of Standard Building Products
Limited. In 1969, Gil returned
to Argentina where he held the
position of Assistant to the Ge-
neral Manager in charge of new
construction at the Campana
Refinery.
He began his most recent as-
signment in Cartagena in 1972.
A B S. graduate in Chemical
Engineering from McGill Univer-
sity, Montreal, Canada, Gil
speaks French fluently, has a
fair command of Spanish and is
conversant in Indonesian and
Italian. In his free time, he likes
to fish and play golf
Married, Gil and his wife Jean
have one Aruba-born son, two
daughters born in Indonesia, and
one daughter born in the U.S.A.,
ranging in age between 20 and
14 years.

Carle F. Williams Jr. Passes Away


Lago's Technical Manager
Carle F. Williams, Jr. passed
away in Texas, U.S.A., on May
29, 1974. He was forty-five.
Carle was born in Seattle, Wa-
shington, where he obtained a
B.S. chemical engineering de-
gree from the University of Wa-
shington in 1952.
In 1955 he joined Lago as a
Chemist in the Technical Labo-
ratories Division where he be-
came a Senior Chemist in 1961.
He later transferred to the Pro-
cess Department where he suc-
cessively occupied the posts of
Technical Assistant, Process Fo-
reman, and following special as-
signments in 1966, became a
Coordinator in the Operations
Coordination Division.
Carle was promoted to Divi-
sion Superintendent Oil Move-
ments in 1968. The following
year he was named Division Su-
perintendent in the M&C Divi-
sion. In 1971 he moved up from
Assistant Process Manager to
Process Manager until his ap-


pointment as Technical Mana-
ger in September 1972.
Carle was very active in the
development of the Oil Move-
ments Modernization and the Oil

Movements Control Center Pro-
jects. He also headed the
HSD-I Start-up Task Force.
He is survived by his widow
and four children. Carle will be
greatly missed by his many
friends and acquaintances in
Aruba.

Bertrando Geerman of
Technical Mechanical Engi-
neering's Cost Engineering
Section started with Lago on
June 5, 1944 as a Laborer
"D" in TSD Engineering Di-
vision.
In February 1948 he pro-
gressed to Rodman and be-
came an Instrumentman "B"
in February 1949 Bertrando
was promoted to Instrument-
man "A" in June 1951.
In February 1965, Bertran-
do advanced to Engineering
Clerk. Since that time he is
in charge of the Bruning
Printing Machine and the
Blue Print Vault in the Gene-
ral Office Building.


Paul Trimon joined Lago
on June 12, 1944 as a Sam-
pler "B" in Technical Labo-
ratories. Here he progressed
through the Tester catego-
ries and became a Tester
"A" in June 1950 Paul serv-
ed in the local army from Ju-
ly 1946 to May 1947
In June 1965, Paul was
promoted to Junior Labora-
tory Assistant, his present
position in Technical Labo-
ratories, Inspection Section.
He has acted several times
as Assistant Group Head.


Agustin Maduro of Mecha-
nical Metal Trades was ori-
ginally employed on Novem-
ber 22, 1943. After a break in
service, he was re-employed
on December 12, 1944 as a
Laborer "C" in the Mechani-
cal Pipe Section Here he
held the position of Pipefitter
Helper "B" in April 1946. Af-
ter a brief assignment as Car-
penter Helper, he became a
Pipefitter Helper "A" in July
1951 and Pipefitter "C" in
November 1963.
Agustin was promoted to
Pipefitter "A" in July 1966.
His job title was changed to
Metal Tradesman "A", the
position he still holds, in Ju-
ly 1967.


Francisco Arrindell of
Technical Lab Inspection
Section began his Lago ca-
reer on June 26, 1944 as a
Sampler "B" in the Labora-
tories He became a Tester
"G" in January, 1945 and
progressed through the test-
er positions to Tester "A" in
January, 1965, after having
acted in that position since
February 1963.
In April, 1971 he earned a
promotion to Junior Labora-
tory Assistant, which is his
present position

James E. Arrindell of
Mechanical Metal Trades
started his employment at
Lago on June 26, 1944 as a
Laborer "D" in Mechanical's
Tin Shop. Here he progress-
ed through the helper cate-
gories to Tinsmith "C" in Ja-
nuary, 1949. He was promot-
ed to Tinsmith "A" in July,
1961. His job title was chang-
ed to Metal Tradesman "A"
in July, 1967
Since February, 1968 Ja-
mes has been assigned as
Metal Tradesman "A" Boil-
er.

Maximo Maduro of Mecha-
nical Cleanout Section join-
ed Lago on June 28, 1944 as
a Laborer "D" in Mechani-
cal's Boiler Shop. He be-
came a Boilermaker Helper
"B" in April, 1948 and was
promoted to Boilermaker "C"
in June, 1966.
In May, 1968, he transfer-
red to Mechanical Cleanout
as a Cleanout Man I, his pre-
sent position. Maximo served
in the local army from Sep-
tember 1945 to December
1946.

DECEASED ANNUITANTS
JEAN ILLIDGE died in St. Croix, Virgin Islands on March 22,
1974 at the age of 60. Mr. Illidge, who had worked in Process -
Oil Movements Division, retired in January 1966 after over 22
years of company service.
FRANCISCO CROES died In Aruba on March 23, 1974 at the age
of 72. He had worked in Mechanical Boiler and retired on
August 30, 1958 after 24 years of Lago service.

Ready To Help
Just like a human needs oxy-
gen to live, a fire needs oxygen

extinguisher provides the killer,

cated closest to your work loca-

Although Lago's extinguishers
are checked frequently (for in-
stance, at process units at least
every week), we all can help by
reporting broken seals or any
defects noted on the extinguish-
er and by having the Fire Sec-
tion refill the unit each time it
has been used or when the car-
tridge has been punched. As
part of regular maintenance,
each extinguisher is checked
thoroughly at least once a year
and every five years hydrostatic
tests are made on the cylinders.
One thing to remember is that
extinguishers must not be relo-
cated from their designated
place, and that for any special
hot work requiring an extin-
guisher, an extra unit should be
requested from the Fire Section.
Don't grab the one just nearby
In any type of fire, rapid ac-
tion counts.... but the best ac-
tion is to prevent a fire from
starting.

ELIAS KOCK, a Mechanical Tradesman "A" Pipe in Mecha-'
nical Construction & Turnaround/Facilities Division, died at his
home on June 9, 1974. He was 51 years old. Mr. Kock had
over 28 years of Lago service. He is survived by his widow,

Santa Cruz.
