Here are some good ways to stretch gasoline mileage: 1. Keep Your Tires Fully Inflat- ed. If tires are underinflated, they put so much extra drag on the engine that you'll use up to 6% more gasoline. Correct tire inflation can save the average driver up to 200 liters a year. 2. Avoid High Speeds. Driv- ing at 110 Kph. can take 22%/ more gasoline per km than driv- ing at 80. When you double your speed, your car has to over- come 4 times as much wind re- sistance. So don't fall into the trap of thinking you're just using gasoline fast. You're also using a lot more of it. 3. Get Regular Tune-Up. A complete tune-up, including new spark plugs and ignition points, can save the average driver up to 650 liters of gasoline a year. A dirty carburetor air filter alone can cost you as much as 300 liters of gasoline a year. It has the same effect as driving with your choke partly closed. 5. Don't Gun Your Engine to warm it up. While it's cold, the Automotive choke keeps it on an Sextra-high diet. 6. Turn Off The Engine while you're waiting for someone. One minute of idling uses more ga- soline than it takes to restart your engine. 7. No Jackrabbit Starts. When leaving a stop light, accelerate P moderately. Remember, it isn't Adrenalin, but extra gasoline I that makes a car leap when you hit the accelerator hard. Fast o starts can increase your gaso- line consumption by as much as 6% and grossly wear out your tires. 8. Don't Use Your Air Condi- tioner when it's not needed. It can take enough engine power to use almost 6 liters of gasoline in every tankful. 9. Drive with a Steady Foot. d Many drivers unconsciously tap n the gas pedal when they drive. I. Tests prove this can reduce 2 fuel economy. r- But most important of all, you ?1 can help conserve precious s. energy by avoiding unnecessa- if ry driving. This can be done by S. taking the following hints: First decide if a car trip is really necessary. If the distance is short, avoid using the car. - Use your telephone where- ver possible instead of driving many miles to handle a busi- ness. - Restrict your pleasure driv- ing to the minimum. - Pool the use of your car wherever possible, so trips of various persons can be combin- ed using less trips. - Combine several short trips into one wherever possible. Siguiente ta algun bon mane- ra pa saca mas kilometrahe for di gasoline : 1. Mantene Bo Tayernan Bon Yend. Asina cu no cai den e trampa di pensa cu solamente ta liher Bo ta gas- tando gasoline. Tambe Bo ta usando hopi mas di dj6. 3. Laga "Tune-Up" Periodica- mente. Un "tune-up" comple- to, incluyendo "spark plugs" y "ignition points" nobo, por spaar pa e promedio chaufeur te cu 650 liter di gasoline pa anja. Ora cu e manual di fabric of suplemento di emisionnan ta bi- sa cu Bo mester "spark plugs", "points" nobo of otro servicio di tune-up of emisionnan, kere nan. 4. Reemplaza Filters y check tur equipo cu ta control polu- cion regularmente. 7. No Sali cu Rancada Fuerte. Ora cu Bo sali despues di e senjal di "stop", primi gasoline moderadamente. Corda bon, esa- ki no ta adrenaline, sino extra gasoline cu ta haci bo auto bula ora cu bo primi e pedal much duro. Rancada rapido por au- menta e uso di gasoline te casi 6% y ta gasta bo tayernan seve- ramente. 8. No Usa Bo Alrecondiciona- do ora cu Bo no tin mester di dje. Esaki por tuma suficiente energia di motor pa usa casi 6 liter di gasoline den cada tanki yen. 9. With a 70- ft. long articulated boom, the new lifting equipment will be li- terally looming over the other four of its species, which have a reaching capacity of only 35 feet. A Mobile "Hi-Ranger" Aerial Tower, it was acquired by the Mechanical Engineering Divi- sion for the Mechanical Refi- nery Maintenance & Planning Division. It will also be used ex- tensively by the Equipment Ins- pection Section personnel. One of the most modern lifting equip- ment now on the market, this unit is mounted on a Ford-ma- nufactured chassis while the superstructure is made by Hobbs International of Connecticut, U.S.A. The unit includes a 700- lb. capacity hydraulic bucket which can accommodate two men at a time with their required tools and equipment. Designed especially for use at high elevations, it is most suit- able here at Lago for inspect- ion and repair work on tanks, and other hard-to-reach high structures. At the same time, it eliminates the need for time- consuming scaffold installation and provides a much faster operation. Easy to operate, this "giraffe" has three lever con- trols at the platform of the truck to regulate vertical, hori- zontal and swing movements. A remote control lever in the High Elevations bucket permits one man to po- sition the tower or boom at any desired angle. A special feature is the out- rigger and boom interlock safety system. The boom cannot be operated unless the outriggers or two "legs" of the "giraffe" are extended to brace the struc- ture for a maximum base sup- port. Morris Hammond, a represent- ative from Hobbs International, spent a week here in December to check out the unit's hydrau- lic system and to train a group of Mechanical personnel who will be operating this easy-to- handle heavy equipment. The training sessions were conduct- ed at Tank No. 914 in the Tank Farm area to simulate actual work situations in the future. *^A^^sh^-~-- 4 Safety Adviser H. A.
