Lago Oil & Transport Co., Ltd. Aruba, Netherlands Antilles fl w VOL. 34 No. 18 September 7, 1973 H. M. Queen Juliana Commemorates 25th Anniversary as Netherlands' Monarch Aruba Celebrates Silver Jubilee O-EM & On National Holiday, September 5 On September 6, 1948 25 years ago H.M. Queen Juli- ana officially assumed respon- sibility of a nation's reign when she was sworn in as Nether- lands' monarch in the "Nieuwe Kerk" in Amsterdam. In one passage of her inaugu- ral address, characterized by her simplicity, she said: "Since the day before last I have been called to a task which is so ar- duous that none who but for one moment could imagine himself in this would desire it, yet so beautiful as well that I can me- rely say: Who am I, that this I may do?" Since that memorable day when she succeeded her mother H.M. Queen Wilhelmina as reign- ing queen of the Netherlands, Queen Juliana has earned the love and respect of the people through her innate simplicity, humane ways and her democra- tic convictions. Lago Police Move to Headquarters In the Industrial The personnel of the Lago Police are now comfortably set- tled in their modern headquar- ters in the new Industrial Serv- ices Building located at Gate No. 2. The police personnel moved from their former offices in the southeast end of the General Office Building on Au- gust 13 and 14. Along with this move, the La- go Police Section has been re- named Security Section. This change is to keep up with the worldwide trend to bring the description of a security offi- cer's function more in line with his actual duties which call for control, safety and protection in industry. The Industrial Services Build- ing is situated a few hundred feet from the former Gate No. 1, previously the company's main entrance to the refinery. It was constructed near the building which presently houses the pay booths and other facilities at Gate No 2. A new guard house in the center of the road and traffic islands at the entrance, which has been widened on both sides for better incoming and outgo- ing traffic distribution, will en- sure improved traffic control and shorter delays at the gate. The Industrial Services Build- ing is the Lago Police's second "own" building. Their first buil- ding was constructed at the company's Main Entrance in 1940 and occupied in 1941. It was dismantled in 1963 and the police personnel moved to new Services Building quarters in a section of the for- mer Employee Medical Center near Gate 2. At that time the gate controls were moved in- ward to a control point adjacent to the present Gate No. 2. In August 1964, the Safety Section, the Police and Fire Fighting functions were consoli- dated into a Plant Protection Division in the former Employee Medical Center Building. The Lago Police Department was re-established in 1966 with central offices in the eastern section of the General Office Building, with the paybooths and other related facilities at the present building at Gate No. 2. Since November 1969, the La- go Police Section (now Secur- ity Section) and the Fire Section form the Industrial Services Div- ision. Queen Juliana Commemorates 25th Anniversary as Netherlands' Monarch Aruba Celebrates Silver Jubilee "V a (Continued from page 1) One of the most significant events during her reign was the signing of the Statute for the New-Style Kingdom with Suri- name and the Netherlands An- tilles as equal partners. To celebrate the 25th anni- versary of her ascension to the throne, a series of festive acti- vities were held in the Antilles on September 5, which was pro- claimed a national holiday in honor of the Queen. The Postal Services of the Netherlands Antilles has also given special recognition to this occasion by issuing a comme- morative 15 cent postage stamp, depicting the Queen and the Antillean flag. In addition, the Legislative Council has approv- ed the issuance of a new silver coin valued at FIs. 25, the first time that such a coin will be circulated in the Netherlands Antilles. A special piece of 925 sterling silver coin (45 mm, 650 grains in weight) will be minted for coin collectors at a cost of about Fls. 40. As a national gift to the Queen on her jubilee, a special collec- tion was made in the community. The proceeds will go towards "The Child in Need." The Queen Juliana Silver Ju- bilee Committee has published 42,000 copies of a special com- memorative picture album, titled "Juliana, Queen of Our Antilles" for distribution to the Antillean school children. E inspection y drechamento general bon coordin& y eficaz- mente planed di KHAR a worde haci door di un grupo di Mech- anical cu ta pertenece na Divi- I Turnaround (Continued from page 1) necessary repair and replace- ment required on the unit. One of the major repair jobs on KHAR was the replacement of a large portion of tubes in the furnace. The tubes which are crammed in the totally en- closed, tall and cylindrical shaped furnace like canned sausages, had to be removed by cutting open the top of the furnace. The twenty-five tubes damaged by the fire were removed by a crane in groups of four. The new 35-ft. long, 6-inch in diameter tubes were installed in groups of three and four and were specially rigged to move within the furnace to their final position. Because the tubes contained chrome alloy, all welds required a special treatment. This treatment involved heating the tubes and gradually cooling them to eliminate stresses in the tube welds. Skilled welders were assigned to this job and the tedious task of fitting back the tubes into the furnace. Another important job was the recharging of fresh catalyst into the reactor. The catalyst was dumped for the inspection of the reactor's shell and internals 01 sion di Construction & Turn- around/Facilities, bao di direc- cion di e coordinator HDS-I Ed- gar Diaz, kende tabata encargh especialmente cu inspection y drechamento general di e uni- dad. f KHAR Unit and fresh catalyst was loaded by the California Catalyst Com- pany. As the KHAR unit is not prov- ided with decoking facilities, it was necessary at this time to install piping from this unit to the adjacent Gasoil Hydrofiner (GHAR). This connection will now make it possible to decoke the KHAR's furnace as well. While the KHAR unit was out of service, ten exchangers were removed and cleaned, and towers and diums were opened for a thorough inspection to deter- mine where cleaning and/or re- pair work was needed. Now that service, it desulfurized preparation duct at its 40,000 bbls. the unit is back in will be processing kerosene for further of low sulfur pro- normal capacity of a day. The construction of a "sister" hotel was deemed ne- cessary because of the ever- growing stream of tourists vis- iting the island and consequent- ly a constant demand for more hotel accommodations. Adding prominence to the oc- casion of the corner-stone lay- ing ceremonies were such per- sonalities as Kemmons Wilson, the magnate of Holiday Inn chain hotels worldwide, Frank King of King International Casinos, and official authorities from Aruba and Curacao. The privately-financed luxury resort hotel is scheduled for completion by September 1974 and is owned by the Aruba Real Estate No. 2 N.V., a subsidiary of King International Corpora- tion of California. The general contractor is D. C. Savage Ltd., while the hotel will be operated by Holiday Inns, Inc. During a dinner the same night in the Holiday Inn Hotel to celebrate this important event in the island's tourist industry, Lt. Governor Tromp presented a certificate to Mr. Wilson pro- claiming him "Goodwill Ambas- sador of Aruba." Lt. Governor F. J. Tromp uses trowel to secure cornerstone he laid for 2nd Holiday Inn, witnessed in the center by Holiday Inn's top man Kemmons Wilson. Gezaghebber F. J.
