Milton Henriquez Named PR Manager, Oscar Antonette Marketing Manager


Milton H. Henriquez assumed
the position of Lago's Public
Relations Manager on March 6,
1973, replacing Oscar V. Anto-
nette Oscar has been assigned
to Esso Netherlands Antilles,
Ltd where he will become
Marketing Manager effective
July 1, 1973. Robert (Roro) Her-
nandez, currently Marketing Re-
presentative, will assume a plan-
ning post in Lago's Mechanical
Department on August 1.

Milton Henriquez recently re-
turned from an eight-month
training assignment at Exxon
Company, U.S.A's refinery in
Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Here
Milton took part in various em-
ployee relations activities as part


of his training program, such as
management training and orga-
nization development, communi-
cation and personnel develop-
ment.
He started his career at Lago
in January, 1960 as an Account-
ant in the company's former Ac-
counting Department (now re-
named Comptroller's Depart-
ment). Here he worked until Au-
gust, 1962 when he was trans-
ferred to the industrial Relations
Department as Personnel Assis-
tant. In January, 1964 he was
sent out on a one-year training
assignment with Esso Nederland
and Esso Belgium to assist
these companies with a salary
and classification survey.
Following his return to Lago,
Milton was promoted to Com-
pensation & Personnel Relations
Adviser in February, 1965. He
has filled this position, except
for other short assignments, un-
til his departure to Baton Rouge
in July, 1972.
Milton holds a bachelor's de-
gree in Business Administration
from the Lehigh University
(Pennsylvania) which he earned

To the Exxon Company
Richard H. Bauer, now a Pro-
cess Foreman in Process-Fuels
Division, will transfer to the Ba-
ton Rouge Refinery, Louisiana,
of the Exxon Company, effective
April 1, 1973.
Mr. Bauer started to work at
Lago as a supervising engineer
in the Mechanical Department
on August 1, 1969. He remained
in this position until February
15, 1971 when he became Divi-
sion Superintendent of the Mech-
anical Engineering Division. He
was assigned to the Process
Department on January 15, 1973.

Bauer had worked as a Group
Supervisor for the Esso Re-
search & Engineering Company
in New Jersey, where he was
employed in August, 1962. He
holds a master's degree in
mechanical engineering from the
Clarkson College of Technology
in New York state.

stad, Al came to Lago as a Jr.
Clerk in the Accounting Depart-
ment in 1951. He subsequently
worked as a Jr. Distribution
Clerk, Cashier's Clerk, Payroll
Clerk II, Monthly Payroll Clerk
and Thrift Foundation Clerk up
to 1964, when he left for the
U.S.A. to study under the Lago
Educational Assistance Program.
In 1967 he returned from the
Bowling Green State University
with a degree in Business Ad-
ministration, having majored in
Accounting, and became an Ac-
countant in the Comptroller's
Department. He was promoted
to Senior Accountant in 1970.
Al, who followed the ICS Prac-
tical, General and Advanced Ac-
counting courses, and a Dutch
course in Accounting and Book-
keeping before going to college,
has also taken courses in Pro-
cess Economics, Effective Su-
pervision and Kepner-Tregoe.
In his leisure hours he enjoys
cooking and eating. He keeps
physically fit by playing tennis
or jogging. He loves music and
plays the trompet, the french
horn and the mouth organ. He
enjoys working with figures so
much that he even takes up
bookkeeping in his spare time.
Al's wife Mary works in the
Comptroller's Office Services
Division. The couple has three
daughters: Mary Lou (18), Donna
Lynn (16), and Corinna (10). The
family resides at Lago Heights.
Pablo completed the eighth
grade of the St. Dominicus Col-
lege in Oranjestad before joining
Lago as a Messenger "B" in the
Accounting Department in 1948.

nomic, Personal Finance and
Public Speaking.
Most of Pablo's spare time is
dedicated to community work
and sports. He is now treasurer
of the San Nicolas Parish Coun-
cil, member of ABBA's Auditing
Committee, member of the Aruba
Trade & Industry Association,
member of the San Nicolas Bus-
iness Association Committee,

Three Advance to Shift Foreman


In Process Depar
Three Process operators were
promoted to Shift Foreman ef-
fective March 1, 1973. They are:
Agrepino Maduro of the Fuels
Division, Felix Maduro of the
HDS Division, and Francisco Ro-
mero of the Utilities Division.
With their promotion, these em-
ployees attained management
status.
A 1944 Lago Vocational School
graduate, Agrepino ("Capito")
Maduro was assigned as a Pro-
cess Helper "C" in Process-
Operating in 1948 Here he work-
ed his way up to Houseman in
1950. and to Levelman a year
later Capito advanced to Assis-
tant Operator in Process-Crack-
ing in 1959. In 1965 he was pro-
moted to Operator.
At Lago, Capito followed
courses in Refining Chemistry
& Process Training and Gas
Testing. He also attended the
Computer Simulator Training
conducted at Esso Research,
Florham Park, NJ and most
recently he followed the Hydro-
gen Plant Startup Training.
When off the job, Capito en-
joys working in his flower gar-
den A football fan, he likes
watching the games. He and his
wife, Eusebia, have two children:
Roberto (11) and Lucia (9). The
family resides at Macuarima
Felix ("Marciano") Maduro
joined Lago as a Junior Appren-
tice "D" in the Lago Vocational
School in 1947. Following gra-
duation in 1951 he began work-
ing in Process-Catalytic & Light
Ends as a Process Helper "C",
and advanced to Levelman in
1959 He was promoted to As-
sistant Operator in 1963. Prior
to his recent promotion, he had
been an Operator since 1966.
Marciano, who was involved
in the HDS-I startup, attended
Process Training courses at La-
go, and the one-week Computer
Simulator Course at Florham
Park.
SHis spare time is dedicated
to growing plants in his garden,
Doing mechanical work, fishing,
or watching baseball or football
games. He also enjoys listening
to taped semi-classical music.
SMost recently he has begun
Studying Spanish. Plans for his
next vacation include a trip to
Costa Rica. He and his wife,
Reina, have five children: Alber-

Francisco ("Chico") Romero
has spent all his Lago career in
the Powerhouses, where he be-
gan as a Process Helper "D" in
1943. In 1946 he became Con-
trolman and in 1948 an Assis-
tant Operator.
Chico advanced to Operator
in Process-Utilities in 1953. On
several occasions he acted in
the position of Shiftbreaker
Shift Foreman before his recent
advancement to Shift Foreman.
Chico followed a company-
sponsored course in Utilities. In
his spare time he enjoys watch-
ing football and baseball games
and doing repair work around
his home He also likes to go
fishing in his small boat. On his
forthcoming vacation he plans to
go to the Fishing Contest sched-
uled at Punto Fijo, Venezuela.
Chico and Rosa, his wife, have
three children, Altagracia (19),
Jose (17) and Sonia (12). They
live in Oranjestad.

Bernadeto Wouters of
Mechanical-Metal Trades, ori-
ginally joined Lago as a La-
borer "D" in the Pipe Section
in 1941. In 1943 he resigned
but was reemployed the fol-
lowing year in the Welding
Department, where he ad-
vanced to Welder Helper "A"
in 1946.

Mr. Wouters subsequently
worked in the Welder cate-
gories until his promotion to
Welder "A" in 1955. In 1967
he became a Metal Trades-
man "A". Mr. Wouters, whose
title is now Metal Tradesman
"A"-Welder, celebrated his
30th service anniversary on
February 13.


Mario Vrolljk joined Lago's
Building Maintenance Section
as a Laborer "D" in 1939. He
later worked in the Mason
Department where he became
Laborer "A" in 1944. In 1947
he was assigned as a Mason
Helper "B" in the Colony
Maintenance Services where
he progressed to Mason "B"
in 1950, and to Mason "A" in
1963. This title was changed
to Building Tradesman in
1967. Mr. Vrolijk had two
breaks in service due to re-
signation. At present he is
assigned to Mechanical-
Building Trades. He complet-
ed his 30th service anniver-
sary on February 17.

Dutch Marines Battle Against Fires in Training Given
p From March 6 through 13,
over 150 Dutch Marines were en-
gaged in "fire" action in an in-
tensive 8-hour fire training pro-
gram given by Lago's Fire Sec-
tion personnel at the Fire Train-
ing Ground.
The personnel of the Marines
included officers, petty officers
and enlisted men of the 22nd
Infantry Company, the 25th
Heavy Weapons Company, and
the Permanent Fire Fighting
Brigade of the Savaneta Bar-

Peter Storey, assisted by Wim
Brinkman of Industrial Services,
and Lt. Arie Domburg. The lat-
ter two gave theoretical class-
room sessions in Dutch, while
Lt. Domburg jointly with Lago's

field evolutions.

Eyes by Using
During February, two employ-
ees Luciano Winterdaal and
Gaston Lake, both of Mechani-
cal-Cleanout saved their eyes
from serious injury because they
used the proper eye protection
while carrying out their jobs.
Luciano was breaking con-
crete in the HDS area on Feb-
ruary 16 when a piece of con-
crete flew off, hit and broke the
left lens of his chipper goggles.
Gaston was busy chipping
gunite in a drum at LEAR-1 on
February 27 when a flying piece
of gunite hit and shattered the
left lens of his goggles.
Had these employees not been
wearing their chipper goggles,
the impact of the flying objects
no doubt would have caused
serious injury to their eyes.
Through the benefit of the
prescribed eye protective equip-
ment, both Luciano and Gaston


Safety Goggles
became members of Lago's
Saved-by-Safety Club and re-
ceived the Club's emblem from
Safety Adviser Higinio Kelly.
Since its initiation in 1964, the
Club now has fourteen members
who were saved because they
wisely and properly used such
protective equipment as safety
shoes (1 case), safety goggles
(8), safety glasses (1), and saf-
ety hats (4).
Lago's Mannual of Safe Prac-
tices says that chipper goggles
provide protection against
HEAVY IMPACT from relatively
large flying objects while chip-
ping, cutting rivets or bolts, ri-
veting, caulking, heavy grinding,
striking operations, such as
breaking concrete and the like.
These safety precautions
should not be applied only on
the job at Lago, but also while
performing jobs at home.

DECEASED ANNUITANTS

LEON W. AMMANN died on October 31, 1972 in the U.S.A. at age
67. He had worked in the Mechanical-Fleld Coordination De-
partment, and retired on August 1, 1962 after 25 years of
service.
ALVAH S. HUDSON died in the U.S.A. on October 5, 1972 at the
age of 78. Mr. Hudson, who worked in the T.S.D.-Engineering
(Field Engineering), retired on March 1, 1954 after almost 29
years of service.
JOHN M. WRIGHT died in the U.S.A. on December 10, 1972 at
the age of 73. He had worked in the Mechanical-Garage, and
retired on January 1, 1959 after almost 22 years of service.
NILS B. STAHRE died in the U.S.A. on January 28, 1973 at the
age of 66. He had worked in the T.S.D.-Engineering Division,
and retired on January 1, 1953 after 15 years of service.

Employment Program Reactivated

For Technical School Graduates


As a continuation of the Em-
ployment Program started in
1969, Lago management has an-
nounced that it will employ about
30 Technical School graduates
in 1973. In addition to these
employment, additional hiring
will be required in 1974 and 1975
to meet the increasing refinery
work load from HDS-II and other
projects.
All new employees will be gi-
ven extensive training in mech-
anical skills. Their first assign-
ment will be in the maintenance
organization as tradesman trai-
nees.
As a first step, approximately
10 trainees will be employed.


Preference will be given to those
who completed the Pre-Employ-
ment Preparatory Program con-
ducted in 1972. UTS graduates
who are not following advanced
studies are preferred; however,
consideration will also be given
to other Technical School gra-
duates with outstanding school
records.
Applicants should be between
the ages of 17 and 25. Trainees
will be selected on the basis of
personal interviews, school re-
commendations and test grades.

New Sulfur Stacking Facilities

Can Build a Pile up to 57 Feet ,


Lago's sulfur handling facili-
ties is now complete with the
placing in service of the sulfur
stacker recently. The stacking
system takes the sulfur in slate

matically piles it up to a maxi-
mum height of 57 feet in the
new sulfur storage area near
the HDS pier.
The stacking system consists
of two main belts: a 42-inch
wide by 660-ft. long yard belt
that rises to an elevation of 44
feet on a 58-ft. high structure
from where the slated sulfur is
deposited onto another 24-inch
wide, 89-ft. long stacker belt. At
its maximum height of 57 feet,
the sulfur storage area has a


maximum capacity of approxi-
mately 50,000 long tons. The
yard belt can also be used to
take sulfur to the loading sys-
tem at the HDS pier.
The stacker was designed and
built by the McKee construction
forces, while the Lago person-
nel involved with the initial
checkout, commissioning and
training activities for operating
the stacking system included
Dominico Marquez of Technical,
Ferdinand Lo-Fo-Sang, Al Con-
nor, Hubert Dirksz and Angel
Rojer of Mechanical, and An-
dresito Croes of Process. Charg-
ed with the construction super-
vision was ERE Field Engineer
Dave Schmehr.
