ARUBA ESSO NEWS November 1976 I November 1976 ARUBA ESSO NEWS 7 Instrument Employees Install Early this year, Lago acquired five new process gas chromatographs for replacing five of these old gas ana- lyzers which have been in use at the NFAR unit since 1960 The chroma- tograph is an instrument that can continuously analyze the various hy- drocarbon components of a particu- lar product stream of a unit. One stream may have between 4 and 8 hydrocarbon components that could be analyzed to ensure that the pmo- duct meets the desired specification. The gas chromatographs were in- stalled by Instrument Maintenance Section employees Edgar Chung, Ivan Gibson, Ernesto Williams and Elias Charles, under supervision of Juan Tromp while Patricio Kock of Technical-Project Development Divi- sion was the job leader. Edgar Chung and Elias Charles in May last year attended a 10-day program for check- ing out these chromatographs at the Bendix Factory in West Virginia. All five programmers or receivers of the chromatographs have been in- stalled in the NFAR Controlhouse, while the analyzer ovens or transmit- ters are installed on the lines at va- rious locations of the NFAR unit. The new analyzers will continuous- ly monitor three overhead and two bottom streams for isopentane, nor- mal pentane, isohexane, normal nex- ane and isoheptane. The information from these analyz- ing instruments is transmitted to and can be read on the control panel in the Refining Control Center. These newest chromatographs are of the integrated circuit type which have less moving mechanical parts and hence are more reliable and would require less maintenance The total cost of the project is approxima- tely FIs. 130,000. I More Efficient, Reliable, New Chromatographs at NFAR Unit Advanced Instrumentman Elias Charles checks programmer or receiver of one of the five new Chromatographs installed at the NFAR Controlhouse.
