Robert Arren- Revised Work Permit In the Maintenance of Lago's fourth edition of the Work Permit Manual went into effect May 30, 1977. The newly revised manual, which supersedes all previous edi- tions, covers the essential rules and procedures for issuing work permits for the safe performance of mecha- nical work in the refinery. The restyled booklet, presented in a more systematic and simplified form, is compatible with current ope- rating and maintenance practices and with actual organization structures. Needless to say, the prime objective of the manual is to develop and main- tain high safety standards on the job The updated manual was introduc- ed during a series of training sessions in the Mechanical Training Facilities in the Laboratories from May 23 thru this month. Attending the sessions were supervisors and employees of Mechanical and Process Department and other Company personnel who periodically deal with work permits. Given in groups of twenty-five per- sons each time, the two-hour sessions covered the new rules and procedu- res in the updated manual in a video- tape presentation given by E. R. Sa- fety Advisor Higinio Kelly. These sessions will also be conducted for contractor employees later this month. The Work Permit system was initia- ted about 1938. Since then, additions, revisions and consolidations have been made at various intervals, with dell, Ruberd A. Barry, Omar R. Booi, Edna L. Farro, Romulo Hernandez, Bernhard A. Kalis, Victor A. Manual Serves as Tool High Safety Standards major revisions made in 1952, 1963 and 1967. Stipulated rules and procedures in the manual are based on many years of experience both at Lago and other refineries. Besides denoting clear and precise instructions on prepara- tions required and the proper mea- sures to be taken prior to a specific job, the manual also outlines the safe use of a variety of equipment. At the same time, it stresses the impor- tance of shared responsibility of su- pervisors and job leaders alike in carrying out a job efficiently and sa- fely. All those who handle work permits re- ceived a copy of the manual. Here two participants in the training sessions re- view their copy.
