Loreto Kock, George
Effective March 1, 1977, Loreto
Kock was promoted to Supervisor of
Planning and Control in Process-Oil
Movements & Shipping Division, while
George E. Chehin and Harold R. Kock
both advanced to Accountant in Con-
troller's Internal Control and Facili-
ties Accounting Sections, respective-
ly. With this promotion, George and
Harold also attained management sta-
tus.
In his new position, Loreto will be
directing and supervising the plan-
ning of the crude and refined pro-
ducts movements at Lago. Prior to
this promotion, Loreto had been a Sr.
Coordinator since 1970.
Loreto joined Lago as a Lago Vo-
cational School student on Septem-
ber 25, 1950. After graduation, from
1954 to 1955 Loreto attended the Al-
lentown High School with a Lago

Scholarship.
He was assigned to Technical-La-
boratories in 1955, where he progres-
sed through the Tester ranks to Tes-
ter A in 1959. He transferred to Exe-
cutive-Operations Coordination Divi-
sion as a Coordination Assistant "C"
in 1961. He advanced through the
Coordination Assistant positions to
Coordination Analyst in 1965 and to
Coordinator in 1966. Loreto was pro-
moted to Sr. Coordinator in 1970 in
Technical-Crude & Products Coordi-
nation.
During 1957/1958 Loreto attended
the Illinois Institute of Technology in
Chicago. He cgnpleted a six-month
overseas assignment at the Creole-
New York office in 1969. At Lago he
took the ODL training program, the
Kepner Tregoe-General, the Effective
Management and Effective Writing


courses. He also attended a Linear
Programming course in Lima, Peru,
in 1967.
On several occasions, Loreto acted
as a supervising engineer in the Co-
ordination and Short-Range Econo-
mics Sections. Last year he was also
an instructor for a Mechanical Econo-
mics Course given to first-line Mecha-
nical Supervisors and some Oil Move-
ments personnel.
In his spare time, Loreto enjoys
playing ping-pong and gardening.
Loreto and his wife Greta have two
daughters, ages 13 and 10 and a six-
year-old son. They live at Papilon
70-C, Santa Cruz.
George Chehin began his Lago ca-
reer on May 20, 1946 as an Appren-
tice Clerk D in Material Accounting.
He subsequently advanced to the po-

Jacobs Honored For 40
Years of Lago Service
On March 1, 1977, Juan de Cuba
of Mechanical-Central Tool Room and
Miguel Jacobs of Mechanical-Mate-
rials Division celebrated their 40th
service anniversary with Lago. Both
were Mechanical Apprentices of the
1937 Class of the Lago Vocational
School.
On this occasion, the Mechanical
Department honored Messrs. de Cuba
and Jacobs at a luncheon at the Esso
Club, during which Division Superin-
tendent Marciano Angela expressed
words of gratitude for their long ser-
vice and contribution to Lago's ope-
ration and presented them with their
40-year service emblems and certifi-
cates. Also present were their super-
visors S. T. Hodge, A. L. M. Connor, S.
P. de Kort and A. O. Yarzagaray.
Juan de Cuba joined Lago on
March 1, 1937 as a Mechanical Ap-
prentice and was assigned to the Boi-
ler Shop in 1939. He transferred to
the Storehouse in 1940 where he pro-
gressed through the positions of La-
borer, Warehouse Helper, Warehouse-
man, Apprentice Clerk and Junior
Clerk. He also acted as Section Head
of Construction Materials for several

22 Employees Take Advantage of Improving

Their Writing Skills in 3 6- H o u r Course


Twenty-two employees enrolled to
improve their writing skills in a 36-
hour Effective Writing Course offered
by Employee Relations' Training Sec-
tion.
Started on February 22, the classes
are given from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon
on Tuesday and Fridays in the Ad-
ministration Building.
The 12-week course includes sub-
jects such as Systematic Approach to
Grammar, Vocabulary Building, Sen-
tence Structure, Writing Clear Senten-
cess, Paragraphing and writing Let-
ters and Memorandums.

moted to his present position of Ma-
terials Clerk I in November 1966.
Juan and his wife Monica have two
sons, ages 26 and 16, and two daugh-
ters, ages 21 and 15. The de Cuba
family lives at Yaburibari, Paradera.
Miguel Jacobs also began on March
1, 1937 as a Mechanical Apprentice.
He was assigned to the Warehouse
Department in 1940 where he advan-
ced through the position of Laborer to
Junior Apprentice in 1940. Subse-
quently, he held the positions of Store-
house helper, Storehoseman, Cargo
Checker, and advanced to Materials
Clerk 3 in 1966. He was promoted to
his present position of Materials Clerk
2 in 1971.
Miguel and his Wife Ana have six
sons, ages 27, 25, 21, 17, 15, and 10,
and three daughters, ages 23, 19 and
13. The Jacobs family lives at Bo-

In his leisure hours George likes
watching baseball and football ga-
mes.
George and his wife Jamieli have
three daughters, ages 27, 26, and 20
years, and a 22-year-old son. The
Chehin family lives at Paradijsheuvel-
straat 23 in San Nicolas.
Harold Kock entered Lago service
on September 12, 1963 as a Jr. Cleri-
cal Trainee D. He advanced through
the positions of Jr. Clerical Trainee
to Jr. Accounting Clerk in 1965 and to
Accounting Clerk 2 in 1967. He was
promoted to Accounting Clerk 1 in
1969 and became a Sr. Accounting
Clerk in August 1974. In 1976 he also
acted as an Accountant.
A MULO-A graduate of St. Augusti-
nus College of San Nicolas, Harold
has his typing certificate and also at-
tended the Aruba Commercial Acade-
my for two years. He also completed
a Lago-sponsored course in General
and Practical Accounting and is at
present following an Effective Writing
course.
Off the job, Harold likes fishing
and playing volleyball.
Harold and his wife Rose have a 3-
year-old son and an 8-month baby
boy. They live at Savaneta 392.

Group From Process, Mechanical, Technical Learns More About Burners


To update employees on the latest
techniques and information for the ef-
ficient operation and maintenance of
fuel oil and gas burners, some 20
Process, Mechanical and Technical
employees recently followed a 40-
hour Zink Burner Course. The con-
tractor who repairs burners for Lago
also had a representative attend the
mechanical portion of the course.
The one-week, all-day course in-
cluded two days of lectures and field
demonstrations on such operations as
disassembling, assembling and in-
spection of oil guns, including trou-
bleshooting.
The other three days of the course
covered the process and technical as-
pects for more efficient heater opera-
tion, such as proper draft, proper
burner size, proper fuel oil/gas condi-
tions and pressures.
In all, Lago has over 300 burners
on the various units and their proper
operation will result in more efficient

J. T. Croes Leaves on Foreign Assignment in Rotterdam March 22


On March 22, Juan T. Croes, Super-
vising Engineer of the Distillation Sec-
tion of Technical-Process Technical
Services Division, left on a 12 to 18-
month assignment at the Rotterdam
Refinery of Esso Netherlands B. V.
Juan will assist in the refinery's
new Visebreaker Project. His respon-
sibilities will include the review of the
Visbreaker design specification, fol-
low-up on construction, inspection of
equipment, assistance in the writing
of operating manual and assistance
with classroom training of operators.

He will be involved in the unit start-
up, which is scheduled for the first
part of 1978.

Juan is a graduate of Colegio Aru-
bano, who studied at the Technical
University of Eindhoven, Holland,
where he obtained his Master's de-
gree in Chemical Engineering in 1970.
He joined Lago's Technical Depart-
ment in June 1970 in the Crude Pro-
ducts and Light Ends Section.
In 1972, Juan completed a 6-month
work assignment at Esso Research
& Engineering Company, Florham
Park, New Jersey, where he assisted
in the company's Petrochem furnace
replacement project.

Returning to Lago in July 1972, he
was assigned to the HDS-II technical
startup team. Later he moved on to
Fuels Division where he was Process
Foreman in the Visbreaker area. His
last assignment was in the PTS Divi-
sion.

At Lago Juan has taken several com-
pany-sponsored courses and also at-
tended a Process Economics Course
in Caracas in 1972.

Juan was accompanied on his
overseas assignment by his wife Jose-
phine and six-year-old son Alan Ge-
rard and two-year-old daughter Edith
Marian.

LSF Attains Twenty
Years of Service
To Aruban Community
Twenty years ago, on March 22,
1957, Lago Management established
the Lago Scholarship Foundation, re-
cognizing that the development of a
community rests with its people and
their development. Through this
means, the Company wanted to as-
sist, in a significant way, the Aruban
community with the development of
Aruba professionals who upon gra-
duation would return to the island
and help build a better Aruba.
Over the 20-year period, the Foun-
dation helped mold the professional
careers of some 340 Aruban resi-
dents, including 141 who studied in
the USA, 190 in Holland, 2 in Puerto
Rico, and 6 in Curacao. Among those
who today serve the Aruban commu-
nity you will find physicians, pharma-
cists, lawyers, teachers, nurses, en-
gineers, accountants, and other pro-
fessionals who, together with the rest
of the community are working toward
the development and progress of the
island. The majority of the gradua-
tes today occupy responsible, mana-

On Sunday, March 20, the Scholar-
ship Foundation presented a special
program on Tele-Aruba to commemo-
rate its 20th anniversary. During the
program several Aruban professionals
who studied under the Foundation's
program were interviewed.
