FLORENCE D. VANTERPOOL (Nee Hodge) was born
in Tortola, B.V.I. on November 4, 1899 to Daniel and
Ellen Hodge. She was the first of six children.

At the age of 15, she moved to St. Thomas where she
finished her education and later attended Franklin Insti-
tute in Rochester, New York where she received her
diploma in Dressmaking and Designing in 1922.

Several years after establishing herself as a dressmaker
she met and married the late Rupert Vanterpool. This
union resulted in nine children.

Following the death of her husband in 1942 she moved
to New York where she resided for' 22 years before re-
turning to her home.

While in New York and St. Thomas she was active in
many civic organizations, including the Orchild Society
and The Women's League.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Also a
very active member in her church. She will be missed
by all. May she rest in peace.
