TRIBUTE

Amelia Collins Sabino was born on St.
Thomas August 24, 1900 to Edward and
Fredericka Collins, nie Dougherty. She was the
fourth of seven children. She met Sinforoso
Sabino on St. Thomas. They were married and
had three children. Their son, Emilio, passed
away in 1949.

Mrs. Sabino spent much of her adult life
working in Madame Josephine Souffront's
Little French Shoppe on Back Street that was a
forerunner of Charlotte Amalie's perfume
emporia of today. Until 1975, when she
retired, she was well known as the familiar and
effective salesperson in the Perfume
Department of A.H. Rllse's Gift Shop. There
she enjoyed interacting with Main Street's
many visitors.

"Tantan", as she was affectionately
known to her family, was very fond of dancing.
In the 1950's, with her son Jose as her partner,
she won a waltz contest at the Grand HoteL
Even in her later years, she would entreat
friends and family to join her in dancing to
lively music that might be playing. Amelia
Collins Sabino succumbed to natural causes on
January 9, 1996 at the very advanced age of
95. She will be remembered for her devotion to
her family, her strong will and her love of life.
