Eustasia de Jesus Richardson, was born on May 4,1917 in
Fajardo, Puerto Rico to Domonga de la Cruz de Jesus and
Santiago de la Cruz. One of five children, Eustasia is also
survived by two sisters, Dominga Ross of Puerto Rico, Marta
Acosta of St. Thomas and brother, Antonio de Jesus of Puerto
Rico.
On October 17, 1943, Eustasia married Alfred Richardson,
her Papa" as she affectionately called him, with whom she
shared 50 years of her life until he passed 5 years ago.
Together they raised her two children, Marie Isabel and
Frank, and later on helped to raise some of the grandchil-
dren. Guela, as she is lovingly known by the family, even
took under her wing little Kurt Tye, the son of special family
friends, who last year lost a battle with cancer. In Guela's
home, Kurt, along with grandchildren, Frankie, Issa, Steffie,
Joanne and all the others were raised with the discipline of
the "Peacemaker" and the love of the "specials" which soothed
any hurt.
Known throughout the neighborhood as the "Special Lady"
or the "Candy Lady", Guela opened her door to many. She
also sold fish, which she painstakingly cleaned after it was
brought in fresh from the sea by her beloved "Captain Fred".
Later on in her life, Guela got out of the house and started
selling lottery tickets. She became a fixture as she sat
outside the Lottery Office at her table with her umbrella and
her hat on her head.
SGuela"; Miss Casitta";" Miss Tasita"; "Mrs. Richardson";
by whatever name she was known, was indeed a "Special
Lady" and will be greatly missed by all whose lives she
touched.
