Abstract: The Enid M. Baa Library of the Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums (DLAM) has acquired an extensive collection of memorial booklets since the early 1970's for U. S. Virgin Islands residents. Booklets are usually more than 10 pages long and give details of the life and family connections of the deceased.

Marietta Augusta Steele Pftilps was born in St.
,Whomas, 'Viyin Islands on February 2,1928. She was the
third child of Abertha and Edgar Steele.
Marietta was married to Eric A. Phillips Sr. and there are
three sons fom that union. She was a wonderful mother
who (oved her children andgrandchildren dearly.
A devoted member ofSts. Peter and aulCathedral,
Marietta attended service regularly until her illness made
this impossible.
Marietta attended the Abraham LincolnSchooland
continued her education at night school. Bared Jewelers
was her last place of employment. She was a steady,
dependable andre able worker andfulffedherjob respon-
sibilities until she was physicaffy unable to do so.
Marietta was privileged to be with the family to
celebrate the first Family 9Punion in July 1988. She met
or was reacquainted with family members fom the Virgin
Islands, several states and England. She was a major con-
tributor to the fund raising efforts. She enjoyed the family
and the activities planned and unplanned.
A very loving and caring person, Marietta made
everyone's problem her own. She suffered quietly and
trustedin gods mercy throughout. She seemednot to tire
on waiting for God.
