Mariana E. Penn, better know as Marie Penn, was born on St. John, V.I.,
Feb. 25, 1893, to Richard and Henrietta Penn. She was the youngest child
of their family of six children. She received her schooling and lived on
St. John during the younger years of her life. She was married but later
divorced. She had four children: one son, Howard, and three daughters, Lola,
Ruby and Enid ( the latter now deceased). She was an excellent seamstress
in her adult life and well-known on St. John for this ability. She was a
kind and gentle-mannered person, well-liked by all with whom she came in
contact. In the early 1940's she moved to St. Thomas to reside and better
her work opportunity. She continued to make her living by using her sewing
skills and soon obtained a position with the V. I. Government as seamstress
for the Knud-Hansen Memorial Hospital. She worked in this capacity for many
years until she retired. In 1973, her health began to fail and she was ad-
mitted for residence into the Queen Louise Home for the Aged. There she re-
sided until she was called to Eternal Life on November 15, 1988. May she
rest in oeacf.
