Andres Mercado, affectionately known as Paple" was born on
December 4, 1911 in Velques, P.R. His parents now decreased were
Alejandro Mercado and Maria Comacho Mercado. Of their union, he
was the sixth of seven children.
At an early age his work with the Army Corp. of Engineers
brought him to St. Thomas where he stayed long after his work was
completed. His long stay was mainly due to a beautiful woman he had
met, Inger Quetel Lomacang who stole his heart and they later married.
Four children came from this union Virginia, Gloria, Eneida, and
Pablo (now deceased).
He began sailing to andfrom Fajardo, P.R. bringing mostly
fruits and vegetables for sale. As his family began to grow he took on
a morepermanent job so he could have more time with them. He
began working with the Public Works Department as a painter and
was later assigned to the Lt. Governor's Office where he retired in
1984.
His love of life after his family were the sea and his land. His
spare time was spent between fishing and farming. Whether on sea or
land "Papie" always had many young helpers, just to name afew,
Jerry Blanchard, Lou and Ricky Magras, Arnold Petersen,
Harry Quetel, Tony "BOZO" Quetel, Francis Danet, Tony Olive,
Jean Turbe, Keith Olive, and many more along with his children.
on in each of them no matterwhat position they now hold in life.
Papie you'll missed very much. REST IN PEACE
