Sarah Augusta Meade was born in Montserrat, West Indies. She was
the last of four children, two boys and two girls. She migrated to St. Kitts,
West Indie in the early ninetee-twentie to forge a life for herself and
her two chidrn. While there she met Melvin Liburd, who departed this
life in 1970, and she bore five children to him, four girls and one boy.
Sarah came to St. Thomas in 194 to again build a life for her six
children. At firrt it wa hard getting bonded, but she fought to keep the
family together and succeeded to houekeeping and hotel jobs. After a
few years she became a permanent resident and applied for citizenship
for her children. That was Sarah' happiest day in her ife.
Sarah loved to cook and took a job at Knud Hansen Memorial Hospital
in 1970 in the food service area and worked there until she retired in 1963.
After that she worked with smaller children at Lockhart Elementary
School as a Volunteer Foster Grandparent She really loved those chil-
dren and was very ad to leave because of illness.
Following a brief illness, she quietly departed this plane on Tuesday,
November 28,1995. She was blessed with a ong full life. Although her
presence will be missed, she will live on in the hearts of all who knew and
loved her.
