1921-1997
Joseph Ashley Martin was born on January 6, 1921 in
Antigua. He visited Dominica at the age of 29, but could
not resist returning to his new love, Ms. Alma; and the
place he would come to call home.
Although he was born an Antiguan, he prided himself
in being called a Dominican, a country he loved till death.
He landed his first job in Dominica with the Dominica
Fire Service. He later worked as a Town Board Officer
with the Roseau Town Council until his retirement.
His hobby was that of a projectionist, playing movies
on his 16mm projector. He traveled all over Dominica.
He was very well known and loved.
He moved to St. Thomas, his third home, where he
kept displaying his great personality. He worked at Caneel
Bay Resort and held other security jobs with different
security firms.
Mr. Martin would defend anything he believed in and
would argue endlessly to drive his point across. To the
end he defended the book he's always loved, to the end he
defended the Bible.

My dearest Mart... You are going to be missed very much. Whenever
I see the Bible I think ofyou. We always discussed the bible. But the Lord
called you home because He has a special place for you. May you rest in
peace.
Maggie
Martin ... I will miss you greatly for your questions, advice and your
friendship, but most of all for your Biblical discussions. May you rest in
peace.
Your friend, Dolphin
Mr. Martin .. You always gave me advice about how to do things at
home and also things outside. You were also like a measuring stick for
me to see if I am living my life properly in the eyes of the Lord. I will never
forget all the things you did for me. May you rest in peace.
