sulogy
Algernon, "Gunny" Maduro was born in Long Path on the
island of St.Thomas on August 18, 1915. He worked with his
father in his lumber yard for many years, and eventually took
over the business when his father died. Thereafter, Gunny pur-
sued his love of business and became bank appraiser for several
years. He worked for the Virgin Islands Government and vari-
ous private concerns during this time period.
Gunny married Altagracia LaFontaine on September 9,
1940. Their union produced three lovely children, namely,
Miranda Bianca,James Valdemar Sr., and Eleanor Eugenie. Gunny
was a vestry member of the All Saints Episcopal Church, where
he was very outspoken and often voiced his displeasure or agree-
ment on various church matters. He was a member of his be-
loved church until his death.
Algernon "Gunny" Maduro was affectionately known as
"Bobo' by his many grandchildren. He was a strong willed man
who was full of determination, zeal, and savvy. He was a stal-
wart in the Virgin Islands political arena during the tumultuous
60's and 70's. Often pensive and reflective, Gunny had a knack
of selecting positive ideas from contrasting views and incorpo-
rating them into palatable compromise. This innate ability en-
deared him to many elected and aspiring politicians, who often
passed by his house (or called) to shoot the breeze and pick up
pointers that could enhance their political careers. He contin-
ued to be a force in his community until illness overcame his
body. Though the patriarch of our family has left us in body, his
strong will, intelligence, and indelible spirit will continue to be a
beacon for all his family, friends, and associates. May you rest in
peace. We will always cherish our memories of you.
Love Eternally,
The Maduro, Richardson, Raymo, lart and George families.

A woman of wisdom and spirituality forever
sharing her love and imparting knowledge to
friends and loved ones.
Yes, That's my Granny.
She has now been put to rest only to enter
higher heights of peace and eternal life. Indeed,
she has been an inspirational and nourishing force
to the lives of her children and grandchildren.
Although she shall be truly missed, her words and
thoughts will continue to live on through us. A
queen, mother, an altruistic human being. Her love,
respect for life, people and her family, will never
fade ...
Yes, That's my Granny.
From all the grandchildren
