Jerry Victor Jurgen, the fifth child of the late Captain Leander and
Nerita Jurgen was born on March 6, 1946 on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin
Islands. His early education began at the Catholic School on St. Thomas,
and continued on St.John at the Julius Sprauve School. Being that there was
no high school on St. John, he returned to St. Thomas and resided with
Edward and Edna Callwood, whom he considered his second father and
mother, until his graduation from the Charlotte Amalie High School in
1966. After graduation he served in the U.S. Army for two years.
On his return from the military service, he worked at the Department of
Education with the Maintenance Department as a plumber. In 1971, he
transferred to the V.I. Port Authority as a firefighter and on his passing
held the position of supervisory crew chief. Everyone will remember him
most for his love for plumbing, which he did on a part-time basis. He was
also a talented musician who expressed his love for music since his high
school days by being a member of the Charlotte Amalie High School Band,
Community Band and the 666th Army National Guard Band.
On December 4, 1971, Jerry was married to Carol Fredericks. From this
union they were blessed with three sons and one daughter.
Because of his charismatic and and warm personality, Jerry won the love
and respect of everyone with whom he came in contact He will always be
remembered for his warm smile and generosity.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY
To God be the glory!
Great things He hath done;
So loved He the world that
He gave us His Son;
Who yielded His life an atonement
for sin,
And opened the life-gate
that all may go in.

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the people rejoice!
Oh, come to the Father, through
Jesus the Son;
And give Him the glory!
Great things He hath done!

O perfect redemption,
the purchase of blood,
To every believer the
promise of God;
The vilest offender who
truly believes,
That moment from Jesus
a pardon receives.

Great things He hath taught us,
Great things he hath done,
And great our rejoicing
through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher,
and greater will be
Our wonder, our rapture
when Jesus we see.

Message from the Governor
I join the people of the Virgin Islands in extending my condolences
to the family and friends of Jerry V. Jurgens. His caring manner and
jovial personality will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
Jurgen will not only be remembered for his service to this commu-
nity, but for his heroic service in defense of the nation. During the
Vietnam Era, he received honors such as the National Defense Service
Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars. He exemplified
the character of leader and devoted defender of freedom.
His untimely passing has impacted heavily upon his friends and a
deeply saddened community he served well.
May his soul rest in everlasting peace.
Alexander A. Farrly

To My Belovd Husband
Jerry, you were more than just a husband to me. You were my best friend
and inspiration. I'm going to miss you and the time we shared together. I
truly cannot complain because you were always there when I needed you and
even when I didn't Whenever things got off track, you would say to me,
"Wifey, don't worry, I'll take care of it." Even though you're not here, you'll
always be in my heart. DearestJerry, may you rest in peace until we meet
Your Loving Wife,
Carol

Eternal rest grant unto Jerry Jurgen, Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine
upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen. May his soul and all the souls of the
faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
With Love,
Your Mother, NeritaJurgen

THANK YOUI
Love,
Your Sons, Shayne and Swayne

Daddy,
I will always remember you in everything I say and do. I have so many
memories. Under absolutely no circumstances could I ever stop loving you.
The Lord maketh and the Lord taketh away and he knows what is best for
you. Ill never forget the good and the bad days; your strictness and your
kindness. Those days will always be cherished, and most of all you'll always be
my "Daddy."
Rest in peace and may God bless you. Don't ever forget that your "Sewee"
will always love you.

My Father was strong,
until the end.
He was more than a Father;
He was my friend.

Obviously God wanted you
to go home.
Dear Father, we know that
you weren't alone.

You are one of a kind
and none could ever
take your place.
I long to see that happy
Joyous smile on your face.

I took it hard and I took
it rough, but I know
for the rest of the family,
I've gotta hang tough.

I look forward to seeing
you one day
It could have been worse,
but for that I pray.

Oh, why Father?
Why did you have to die?
This is the end and I
hate to say goodbye!

Your Loving Son,
Stefan

Daddy, you were a wonderful father to me, one who has taught me
many things. I was looking forward to spending many more years with you
but I know you will always be by my side. Just because you are out of my
sight does not mean that you are out of my mind.
Your loving Son,
Sean
P.S. We will meet again some day.

Dear Dad,
I can't begin to count the many ways that you will be missed. Your
warmth, your smile, your faith in me ...
Thank you for making your home my home. Thank you for caring.
Thank you for all the times we shared.
You will always be Chanise and Chanisa's "Grandpa" and well always
love you.
Your adopted Daughter,
Enid

Dear Lord, thank you for giving Jerry to me as a brother, hero and
counselor.
I remember when my brother got his driver's license, we'd go for rides
together. Whenever we got home, I'd "rat" aboutJerry did this .. or Jerry
did that and he would promise me over and over, "That was your last
ride."
I remember when he went to Vietnam, my hero would write to me in
envelopes addressed to me, not enclosed in mom's letter. If he phoned
home when I was not there, he'd call back just to speak to me
I remember on special occasions, such as marriages, births graduations.
I would cry, cry, cry, and my counselor would say "girl, stop flooding
down the place and wash my car instead."
Lord, I could wash his car now, but instead Ijust want to remember, cry,
and pray that someday I'll be riding with him down the golden streets of
heaven.
Into your hands I commit his spirit, 0 Lord. Amen.
With Love,
Your Sister, Thecla Hanley

To a Friend
You are very special and will be greatly missed. Your kindness will never
be forgotten.

In Loving Memory
The road is rough
The going is tough
I promise to make Jesus my choice,
I pray Jerry made Jesus his choice.

Dearest Jey,
Loving husband.
Loving father.
Lovingfriend.
You've touched our lives with sunshine and laughter throughout the
years. That loving smile will be greatly missed by all who knew you. Your
genuine love for family and friends is so special. However, we leave your
passing in God's hands and ask him for the strength to abide with things we
do not understand, and not question his will.
Jerry, we will cherish the memories of you forever. Sleep on, beloved
friend, and take thy rest.

There's a saying...
A shoemaker repairs others shoes while his shoes have holes. Jerry fits
that proverb. He was never too tired to help someone else whales his needs
remained on the back burner. It was never too inconvenient to assist anyone
in need. Jerry, you were the best brother and brother-in-law anyone could
have had. May you rest in peace.
Kenneth & GladysJurgen

A Time For Everything...
Everything that happens in this world happens at the time God chooses.
He sets the time for birth and the time for death. He sets the time for
sorrow and the time for joy, the time for mourning and the time for danc-
ing. We are grieved by Jerry's passing, but let's thank and praise God for the
life he shared with us.

JERRY THE MAN
There was once a man I once knew
Who was one of the chosen few
His eyes were bright, his face
wore a smile, but no one knew
what he held inside.

An easy going, softspoken man
Who's now headed for the promised land.
JERRY THE MAN. Some of us
don't understand why you left us
so soon. But to say the least we
won't complain because if the sun
can shine through the rain and
survive, WE WILL SURVIVE. It's
journey we call LIFE, JERRY, I
know you will agree with
the old cliche that says...
"The good die young!"

The Christian Family,
Gone but never will beforgotten

Although Jerry has departed from us physically, his memories and spirit
will remain forever. Jerry Jurgen gave us a perfect example of how one
should live and work to the fullest extent without any concern for tomor-
row, for it was once said that "tomorrow is not promised to any man."
To many people, Jerry seemed happy-go-lucky, but he was not. He was a
man who took care of his responsibilities, which included five children and a
wife. He also leaves behind many family members and friends who loved
him. He will be missed most for his smile, friendliness and most of all, his
generosity. He was a very giving man who didn't know how to tell anyone
who asked for anything "no." He would give you his last five dollars and
wonder if that was enough to sustain you.
To all of us who knew and loved Jerry, we all knew that he would have
been here and has been here for us in time of need. Let us be there for his

wife Carol and five children, Sean, Stefan, Shereese, Shayne and Swayne.
PerhapsJerry departing us at this early junction in life is an injustice, but
it was a decision made by the Lord and one which shall not be questioned.
Jerry, you will be missed by all, but especially by your loved ones. May you
rest in eternal peace.

To Family and Freinds of JerryJurgen
Heavenly Father, the death of our dear brotherJerry has filled our eyes
with tears and our hearts with sorrow. We are distressed by the mysteries of
your providence. As your children we want so much to say, not my will, but
thine be done, but at times we find it difficult to do. Forgive us and help us,
I pray You, by Your Holy Spirit to accept Your ways as always best.
Apply to our wounded hearts the healing touch of Your precious prom-
ises, and let us soon experience its power. Teach us not to mourn as those
who have no hope. Wipe away the tears from our eyes that we may be able
to see through the midst, beyond death and grave, to the resurrection and
life assured by the glorious victory of my Savior Jesus Christ over death and
grave.
May the passing of our brother Jerry remind us that we too, are but a
pilgrim and stranger on earth.
Teach us to number our days and to apply our hearts to the wisdom
taught byJesus Christ, that He is the way and the truth and the life, and that
no one comes to you but by him. "Amen".

Today a I meditated, I had a 'chat with Jerry...
I aid, 'Jerry what to your family would you really le to say?
He aid, Tell Carol that he was the center of my heart.
Tell her that there were so many things I wanted to say and
do.
And that I'm truly sorry our life together was so hort.

Tell "Sewee my precious one, not to cry and from her
cheeks her tea please dry.
Tel the boys tht they must be strong and not to worry.
Time will help them deal with death's agony."
And then he smiled and Said,
Judy, that's all for today."
And I sat and I thought, a his features gradually faded away.
For the Jerry I knew, never had much to say.
And a tear of goodbye slowly slid from my eye,
But from the look on his face I knew I should not pry.
And then I thought about Carol, Shereese and the boys.
And the fact that birth and death are dates one cannot
avoid.

I saw the the angels march in and heard their trumpets blow,
They wrapped their arms around him, and in my ear his
fnal goodbye echoed.
I called d called his name out loud and all be did w wave,
I trembled and shook. for this was a day no man ever crave
They gallantly marched away butJerry did not even stray
I knew he was happy, because that smile never faded away.

So Carol, wipe your tearn and your children's face dry.
And rejoice, forJerry has found his home with God on high.
So let us remember to pray today, as memories pierce our
hearts,
And to surrender our live toJesus to escape death's wrath.

What can be said of the passing of a classmmate especially one who,
moments before was so vibrant, full of life and dose to each of us? We can
remember his dedication to his class, his work and his family. We can remem-
ber how, once called upon, he would get totally involved in the task at hand,
especially if it was a class project.
In so many ways Jerry led and inspired us. His even temperament, good,
positive attitude and ability to work things out made him someone you could
always talk to and gain useful solutions from.
We shall miss him dearly. He was a good friend, a good family man, and
a good Virgin Islander. And, while saddened by his sudden, untimely pass-
ing, we can rest assured that he has earned his place in heaven.
Thank you,Jerry, and goodbye.
