ELDRA RAPHELA WILLIAMS JOSHUA
February 21, 1920- November 23, 1985
Eldra Raphela Williams Joshua was born in Santurce, Puerto
Rico on February 21, 1920 to Cassandra and Albert Williams.
She was raised by her aunts, "Tantan Charlotte" Richards,
Viola "Dainty" Emanuel and sister, Irene Broome; their
mother having died while she was a young girl. She received
her formal education in the Virgin Islands public schools.
Aunt Eldra met and married Samuel Joshua, a marriage
which produced one child, her daughter, Sonia.
For the past three years since her illness, she lived a very
quiet and secluded life, looking forward to the hours she spent
with her grandchildren or visits and calls from relatives and
friends.
Faith has taught us that death is not the end, nor is it a time
for mourning, but rather a time for joy and singing of praises.
So though we mourn, we find comfort in the fact that she has
gone to a new and better life. A life free of pain, discomfort
and death.
Aunt Eldra, a loving and extremely devoted mother and
grandmother, passed peacefully from this world on Saturday,
November 23, 1985 at the St. Thomas Hospital, after giving
her grandson Roy a smile that sparkled in her eyes. He said "I
know mammie died loving me."
The Strife is O'er, the battle done,
The Victory of Life is won.
Rest peacefully, Aunt Eldra
