W illiam James Hercules, better known as James Gardiner, was born
November 20, 1936 on the island of St. Kitts to the late Thomas Gardiner and
Elizabeth Hercules.

He moved to St. Thomas in 1963 where he sought better opportunities for
himself and his family. He was married to the former Julia Smithen on August 6,
1966. Together they had eight children two boys (Arthur & Ivan) and six girls
(Susannah, Cynthia, Medina, Keisa, Miriam and Linda).

James was a friendly, loving, devoted person a model citizen, but more
importantly an understanding and caring father. Nothing was ever too good for any
of his children. He worked day and night to support us all and to make sure we
didn't have to beg for anything. He was loved in his immediate neighborhood in
which he contributed of his time and effort in making it attractive. A man of great
pride, perfection and manners, he instilled pride and neatness in his children and
always told us manners will carry us around the world. One of his usual sayings was
"If you're going to do something, do it right or don't do it at all".

A hard, dependable, and diligent worker, he gave devoted services at the Public
Works Department, Ed Kalik Enterprise, and H. Ster Jewellers where he was a
Security Officer for sixteen years, the last five being head of security, until the time
of his death.

His passing is a shock to all of us, but well always remember the bright side until
the "Morning Light" appears.

Dear James,
We have known each other for forty one years, and we've been married for twenty seven
years. Yes, at times we had our differences, but we still understood each other. I still loved
you. You will be truly missed by all of us, but I'm thankful for the last moments we spent
together. May you rest in heavenly peace. Love, Julia
To my one and only father. After Jesus, you're the next best thing that ever happened to me.
It seems like yesterday that you carried me in your arms; just yesterday that you told me you
love me. Now today you're gone. I haven't enough tears to cry for you, and I cannot say the
words "I love you" enough; you remind me so much of my Heavenly Father. You were a
father and a friend. You never knew you were my hero. I stand amazed at you. You were a
man of strength and honor. I hope to see on Resurrection Morning. Love always. Medina
Grandpa you were very dear to us, and we're going to miss you your warm smiles and
gentle hugs. You have toiled long and hard and now it's time for you to rest, but we hope to
see you soon. We love you. Jacob, Hannah. Jessica & Hadessah
My father has always been a special man, one whom I admired and respected deeply; a man I
have never been ashamed of. There were good times as well as bad times, and I choose to
remember the good. I gave him a kiss on Thursday night intending to see him at noon time
Friday, not knowing it would be my last kiss, but time waits for no man. This sudden loss is
hard to understand, but Jesus knows why, when and how. I miss him already. We look
forward to the blessed hope. Susie & Vernon
Dad, words cannot express the great loss I and others are sharing today. But in my hour of
despair and discouragement, God is my encouragement, health and strength. There is one joy
though my heart doth rejoice over, and it is the joy in knowing that you have gone on to be
with your Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. I love you now and always. Keisa & Kaiesa
To my dear daddy: I had always loved you. and I still do, but there's one thing left to say, and
that is how much I'm going to miss you. Love. linda
To a dear cousin: For the past eight years since I met you and found out we were family, you
welcomed me with open arms. It was nice knowing and meeting you, but the hardest thing is
to know that you have gone and left us. God be with you and rest in peace.
Love always, Jill Prentice
To my Dad The most wonderful and caring Dad in the whole world I'm sorry that I never
really got the chance to say goodbye and to tell you how much I love you. But there's a peace
and joy in my heart in knowing that you're gone on to be with your Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ. 111 miss you dearly, and I'll always think of you everyday. I know you're the most
handsome angel in Heaven. Goodbye daddy, and I love you. May you rest in peace.
Love Miriam

Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. For I am
persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things
present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to
separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom. 8:33, 38 & 39
Cynthia & Coy

It was an honor and a pleasure to have worked through all the years with James:
always there, ready to help, efficient. He was a true gentleman and a real friend. We
will miss you and will always remember you.
Eveline Harteneck & Vanilda Samico
H. STERN- ST MAARTEN
Farewell to our friend and colleague, James Hercules. A void is left in our hearts and
we shall remember forever your laugh and smiling face. Rest well and in peace.
With love,
Your friends at H. Stern Havensight Mall
James, I will never forget your warmth and friendliness since I came to the island. I
will never forget you...
Helena
James Hercules... A special man forever in our hearts and minds...He will be deeply
missed. In remembrances of days of love, friendship, and devotion -
With love.
Andrea. David. and Karl Weibel
Everybody has their ups and downs. But, James, your downs were very rare. You
were such a superior person that you never compromised your amiability and
courteousness. No wonder I always respected, liked, and admired you.
Adriano Isidoro
How can you express in words your feelings for such a wonderful person. James
was our co-worker, helper and most important our friend. His smile was there to
greet us in the morning and it was there when we said good night at the end of our
work day. He will truly be missed by all of us. Rest in peace, James, you will
always be in our minds, memories and in our hearts.
H. Stern The "Fichario"
Now that you are resting in the gentle and loving arms of the Lord, there is an empty
place here on earth. I will always keep the memory of your kindness and caring here
in my heart. Go in peace, my friend.
Nannette
James, you will be truly missed by all of us. You were not only co-worker, but a
friend. Rest in peace.
Edna
In these moments of deep grief, words are inadequate to express our sorrows and
sadness; the loss in almost unbearable But our God Almighty will make us strong,
like James was, and our memories of him will hold us together and comfort us.
James will be always in our hearts, as God leads us forth in this world. Rest in
Peace, James.
